We now have something else to talk about this summer, something that almost looks like football.

According to ESPN.com’s Andrea Adelson, Clemson tackle Isaiah Battle will enter the supplemental draft.

Battle was the Tigers’ starting left tackle last year, and played more snaps than any player on the team.

“I have some family matters to address, with a child due this summer, and I feel it is in my best interest to enter the NFL supplemental draft,” Battle said in a statement from the school.

Battle had some issues previously at Clemson, with suspensions in 2013 for punching a player and one last year for disciplinary reasons. He was also pulled over earlier this month for a traffic stop and was cited for possession of marijuana.

6 foot 7, 290 lbs with 25 career starts. Athletic, reminds me some of D'Brickashaw Ferguson (which is weird since they are both from New York).

Let's load up. Six Offensive Linemen offense, single WR sets.

Seriously, someone will get a decent prospect with this kid.

He didn’t appear to have trouble with his assignments. No major busts or mistakes. Able to pass twist stunts and handle games. Angles for down blocks were good and worked hard to finish his blocks. Was consistent in way that he played snap-to-snap. No problems blocking on the move or in space. Able to see his man, adjust his path and become engaged. Pass sets were a little top heavy because he knew that he lacked strength. Had to get to rush before he could get to him. Did not see him get beat to the corner in games I studied.

Lets get it done, maybe our swing tackle. :starspin:

I don't see where there's 'any room at the inn'.

In trying to guess at the eventual 53-man roster, I don't see how Battle could possibly fit.

You would have to keep him on the 53 or he would be claimed by the first team that could and you would have wasted the pick you used on him. But that would mean cutting either Green (or IR'ing him), Gibson or Weems. And I think any of them you released would quickly be grabbed by another tackle-needy team. So any thoughts or getting any of these guys to the practice squad is futile in my opinion.

Tyron Smith
Ron Leary
Travis Fredrick
Zack Martin
Doug Free
La'El Collins
Mackenzy Bernardeau
Darrion Weems
Chaz Green
Laurence Gibson

Unless Green's surgery shelves him for longer than they thought and they plan to IR him, I don't see where the team has the room to add Battle, especially for the draft pick (likely at least a 4th rounder) I think it would take to get him.

I think he would take Green or Gibson's place.

I might be getting a little too hyped on building the OL, can't get enough good OL. From what I saw this kid can play left OT which is a plus. I thought if we could get him for a 5th pick it might be worth it.

Well just from my viewpoint alone I feel Green will be on IR or cut, because he is too injury prone.

IR I can see, but I don't think there's any way the Cowboys cut their third round pick already, injury or not.

It's my belief that Gibson would be claimed as soon as he was cut and would never make it to the practice squad. There are just too many teams needing offensive tackles. In fact, Gibson was on the phone setting up a visit with the Broncos when he got the call that Dallas had drafted him. And that was before the Broncos lost All-Pro tackle Ryan Clady for the season.

And if you're cutting either one of these guys for Battle, you effectively paying whatever draft pick it takes to get him and the 2015 draft pick you previously used on the guy he's pushing off of your roster.

It's practically the anti-La'El Collins scenario.

I do see your point, and it would be a gamble to take someone in the 5th round of the supplemental when we have a lot of guys. But if he was better than Green or Gibson you could trade one of them.

I can see the value too and felt the same way. That you can never have too many. But after examining the roster, I just can't see how you fit him in on the 53. The only possibility I see is if Green goes to IR and the team keeps 10 linemen.
