Cletis Gordon

I read he played in 30 games for the Chargers.

What was his responsibility while playing? I have only seen it reported that he played Special Teams and did some returning for them. Not sure if he ever made it on the field in the normal D.

I can't imagine more than a handful of teams in the past decade even taking more than 4 CB's on the active gameday roster, so if he was playing on ST's and returning he was seeing some defensive snaps as well.

I am not biting. I remember him with chargers and he was liability when there was injury and he played. Its great that is having nice little stretch but Wall has more upside.

It's not odd at all for a team to have some special team players not involved in the game plan that are active on game day. You could be right but I wouldn't assume anything, our own players such as Hurd, Watkins and even Austin would be active on game day and have not have an active role in the game plan.

I will be interested in watching Gordon during the preseason games. Although as i read around a week ago, we need to remember that Gordon has gone through NFL practice in the past while Wall is a rookie. So right now it may not be an apples to apples comparison.

I am 99% sure Cletis was on the team at the end of last year or some point during the season at least. Heck of a name though.

"You guys need to remember one thing .... if he's so good, why was he available?"

"Huh?"

"Huh?"

"Answer me that!"

I'm a bit surprised I did not think much of Cletis Gordon heading into camp but evidently he is doing allot of good things in training camp. I'm looking forward to seeing him get some playing time in the upcoming pre season games.

There has to be some unknown issue with Gordon. The guy is a ball hawk, but isn't even in the top three CBs with either team he has been on in four years?

Everyone knows, Wade tosses out praise about all players. Very seldom (if ever) will you hear him bad mouth a player by name.

My thought is Wade is giving Gordon a lot more praise because he is now the fourth CB. Considering the other three are Teddy Williams who hasn't played football in years, Bryan McCann who was undrafted and probably brought in as an extra body / ST returner, and finally Jamar Wall whom everyone knows is over his head here.

Can the man step up and really play in this league? I don't know. He hasn't done much in four years. If he does, I expect it to be this year. If he can't do it this year, it's time to let him go.

This is why they play the games - in this case, preseason games. Gordon has come out and impressed coaches in practice. Now he has to go out and prove he's not just a practice player, which we've seen from many players over the years. If he goes out and gets roasted by backup WRs and 3rd string QBs, all of his work in practice basically goes out the window.

We'll see. Maybe he finally gets it and he goes on to have a solid NFL career after bouncing around for a few years.

Wade talked about him because the reporters asked about him. And they asked about him because he had three picks in practice.

Nobody thinks the guy is some kind of star... He's a fourth CB, for crying out loud.

He's the solid number 4 right now. He'll see some action there with special packages. Unless they put Hamlin in and let Ball move to the 4th CB role.

Ball is the de facto fourth CB because the Cowboys can stay in their base defense when an opponent goes 4 wide. It'll be great because we can keep all four linebackers on the field and not have to sub anyone.

Gordon, however, has impressed in practice so far. Looking forward to seeing him on Sunday night in Canton.

No i understand that but taking more than 4 CB's to gameday would just be a waste of a roster spot. You're 4th CB is primarily a ST guy anyway so taking more than 4 would be overdoing it imo. Im pretty sure he did play on the defense though, from everything i can find. He just was never really that good. Who knows though, maybe he can turn it on this year and finally have everything click for him.

Four CBs would be Newman, Jenkins, Scandrick, and Gordon.

Ball is counting against the tally of safeties.

I think the Cowboys will have 9 DBs active on Game Days.

Newman, Jenkins, Scandrick, Gordon
Ball, Sensabaugh, Watkins, Hamlin, Church

I'm basing my judgement on what those who are covering the camp is saying about Gordon more than what Wade has said. Gordon is making plays on the field and that is what is getting reported hard to argue with results.

According to everything I have heard, Alan Ball will not see time as this teams 4th CB

I wasn't bashing the guy, I was only trying to temper the excitement. Every year we have a Amendola, Stanback or Martellus Bennett who garners huge amounts of hype that ends up being for not.

From what I've heard, he has always been a ball hawk. This is why I said there much be some unknown about him, because if you are an INT machine; wouldn't you actually see playing time?

True, i guess it wouldn't be such a shock to see 5 CB's on an active gameday roster. Still, from everything i understand Gordon did play some defensive snaps in SD. He just isn't that good, which is why its his 5th year and we picked him up just to bring in and compete.

I have not heard he was a ball hawk and I was not expecting much out of him heading into camp. He is showing up on the field this year and doing some good things if he can continue it then he gives himself a good shot at making the final roster. A player can't do anything to change the past he can only focus on the future and if Gordon is showing improvement then his hard work must be paying off for him.
