What Would Tebow Do: Florida QB has world by the Gator tail

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Tim Tebow thinks of himself as the new Danny Wuerffel.

Not that Florida's sophomore quarterback will necessarily win the Heisman some day. But the national championship thing already is taken care of. It's more about being Wuerffel the person than Wuerffel the quarterback.

So Tebow signs and signs and signs, just like his hero did for him.

"I got his autograph three times," Florida's current quarterback says of Wuerffel. "I want to treat others like he treated me."

That's part of the problem of being a rock star in shoulder pads. Tebow can't go anywhere without being hit up for his signature, picture or his time. The requests start the moment he leaves the practice field.

Combine Swamp Fever with camera phones and he might be the most photographed Gator in history -- even when he isn't being called onstage by country singer Kenny Chesney.

"A lot of people would like to figure out what we did as parents," said Bob Tebow.

Timmy T. is really that perfect. Tebow doesn't drink, smoke, chew or carouse, but he does abide the fans.

"I'm not burned out," said Tebow, who might as well be the Christian-based, all-around-good-guy reincarnation of Wuerffel. "I'm just having fun."

Still, Urban Meyer is concerned. The Florida coach worried about a lot of things when Tebow enrolled a semester early in 2006 to get a head start on school and football. Getting overrun by Sharpies wasn't one of them.

"He does (get tired)," Meyer said. "He won't ever let you know. We wear him out in recruiting as well. Our coaches have been instructed never to use him."

It has become too easy, Meyer said, to use Tebow as a commodity -- everything from recruiting host to guest reader for the local first graders.

"He's got things he's got to focus on," Meyer said. "Here's Tim, he never gets a chance to go home on Saturday nights and see his family."

He is a nice guys but he only played QB when Flordia wanted to run from the QB position. He has a lot to prove this upcoming season as far as his ability to play the position and I don't see him as a 1st rd pick at this stage, to be honest I don't see him as a day 1 pick.

If he's only a sophomore and enrolled a semester early, at that, I can pretty much guarantee we won't have the option of drafting him in '08, since he won't be eligible til '09.

If we are going to draft a QB, I'd prefer someone who like Brohm.

Colt Brennan or Colt McCoy.

Those names just sound like Cowboys.

I wonder if Colt Brennan is a product of the system type QB more than anything... Colt McCoy is okay I need to see more from him though, not to mention can he stay healthy?

Why would we want him? No way. I've never even seen him throw a pass. He is put in the game to run for a short yardage 1st down or touchdown. His is a glorified Jared Lorenzen (sp?) from the Giants. Except Lorenzen has a cannon arm, but usually just runs the ball instead because he's the size of a small o-lineman.

I'm on the Romo bandwagon for better or worse (hopefully better). I've been on there since he scored the game winning TD in a pre-season game vs. the Raiders a few years ago. For those of you who don't know ... they 'boys got the ball inside the 5 with a few ticks on the clock. He called everyone up to the line of scrimage and signaled for a spike, but when the ball was snapped, he ran it in for the TD himself. That took guts and showed me that he had it. So, you'll never see me wanting the Cowboys wanting to draft a QB to take his spot, but if it were to happen, there are plenty of better QBs in college.

Oh, and I'm not sold on McFadden either, but that's another story for another post.
