Play went off as planned but in moment, and 3 guys next to him, ref got confused and called out on game speaker that #70 was the eligible. Confirmed.
I don't see how this is confirmed, the ref said 70 reported.

See a lot of new faces and same confusion as last night, if you want to avoid going through 40 pages of replies……
  1. Lions designed a sneaky 2 pt play before the game where it looked like #70 was reporting as eligible but in fact #68 was reporting. Confirmed.
  2. Dan Campbell told the refs about it before game to avoid confusion. Confirmed.
  3. Play went off as planned but in moment, and 3 guys next to him, ref got confused and called out on game speaker that #70 was the eligible. Confirmed.
  4. Cowboys didn’t attempt to cover #68 thinking 70 was the guy. Confirmed.
  5. Refs called back play and went from 3 to 7 yard line because 68 was ineligible. Confirmed.
  6. Campbell went for it again on 7. Cowboys got a TO but Parsons offsides and got it cancelled.
  7. Ball back to 3, and Campbell went for it a third time. #11 and #90 good pressure, bad throw from Goff, Cowboys win.
The only thing that cannot be confirmed is if the first attempt was an illegal formation if #68 was correctly labeled as eligible. I am reading all types of stories on this from players to coaches to the fans so I would recommend just waiting until the official NFL explanation unless you feel pretty good about your observation of that. Why does it matter? Because it means even if the refs blew it and gave us a gift, it would have been an illegal formation.

Bottom line though is the Lions tried to be very cute with a sneak play and it bit them in the butt. After weeks of claims, just shows there is no vast conspiracy on refs and they can blow just about anything, including in our favor. And Dan Campbell is getting a lot of credit for being aggressive but in my opinion, it was just stupid and he let his ego and emotions get the best of him. He could have kicked the extra point and brought the game game into overtime. He had three chances.
I dont blame that on the refs. Campbell sent three guys out there to confuse and it worked. He just confused the wrong people. Aside from that they HEARD the ref say #70 is eligible. It was up to Detroit to correct it.

Instead of doing so they hoped their sneaky play would be overlooked. 68 was open because he wasn't freaking eligible.

As far as "conspiracy" I absolutely blame them for the tripping call that properly prevented us from putting the game to bed.

3 guys at the ref. Campbell clarified w ref before game who would report so no confusion but it backfired.
NFL rules do not limit who can report as eligible. The Lions could send 3 OL to report if they wanted to. The issue is the ref only recognized one of them. But I don’t know how the Lions were supposed to know which players the ref recognized. If you say something to a ref and he runs off, how do you know he heard you?

They just got caught being sneaky, they tried to make it look like someone different was reporting or not reporting, while actually reporting to the refs, and were hoping Campbell’s pre-game talk would mask the uncertainty. Call him a crazy genius or an idiot, but it backfired and confused the refs as much as the Cowboys. LOL

Cliff's Notes should be 70 was announced and 68 was not. Nothing else really matters.

Lions spent all their timeouts as they should have realized it was shot once the announcement was made and called a timeout.

It appears the ref heard 70 , turned his attention , and never heard Decker. Both are allowed to report as eligible at the same time on the same play which was my original point. They were not trying to do a switcharoo. They were trying to make both players eligible.

If that is true which we have no way of knowing, 70 was covered up and reported as eligible. Penalty

That’s a good point too. Again, everyone is applauding Campbell as a great coach, and I understand why, he’s an easy guy to get behind. Sort of a cross between a Bill Parcells and a Bill Cowher. But if Campbell was worried enough to even talk to the officials before the game, because it was a cloudy, sneak play, his radar should have been on for whatever happened. This is going back to my other point which I don’t think I covered in the first thread, but he’s stubborn and tried to railroad that two point in when it was obviously a lost cause, and let his ego get the best of him. He even got a warning of how bad it was going to be with our interception that was turned back from the penalty. I would only go for the trifecta if the quarterback is a guy named Patrick Mahomes or Lamar Jackson.
