Clip from Robert Saleh on players learning new defensive systems takes time

Also consider this is the 4th new system in as many years.

Still, not expecting perfection is a lot different than getting the worst year after year. We don't need Doomsday 3, we just need guys to line up in the right place and do their job.

Maybe we should tell the first place Giants this. They are on the first year of their defense.

They are 9th in total defense. And one could argue with less talent than Dallas.

Coaching matters.
I’d strongly disagree on less talent. They’ve drafted the top defensive players multiple consecutive years. The talent is there.

I can understand not being perfect in your assignments. New defenses do take time.
I do not understand not being able to tackle a ball carrier. Some guys on our team look like they've been playing flag football their whole lives. 250lb guys who CAN'T pull down a QB or a RB. Do we even have a weight room ?
Also, regardless of what system you're in, how long does it take a DE or OLB to learn edge containment? I'm watching perimeter defenders crash down inside REPEATEDLY, leaving huge lanes wide open for 10-15 yd runs or easy completions. It still comes down to coaching. Either they're not teaching it or they're tolerating STUPID play.
All on the coaching.

Even though we have another new DC and scheme. This defense should not look this bad. No excuse for the constant wide open receivers.
You can see it happening once in a while, to all teams. But it happens 80% of the time to this team, or so it seems.

That 3rd and 21 at a critical time was atrocious. I can see if it was a contested catch. But wide open, no coverage is not acceptable.

Brilliant video and snapshot of what a proven Def-minded coach brings to the table. We will have to wait and see how it works out for us. I think the Def struggles we have (new system, new coaches, injuries) are seen as more significant due to the problem this team has shown at critical times on Off and esp Spec Teams

They have a better pass rush

Sorry, but on the 3rd and 21 play, there was no learning curve involved. It was pure scheme and stupid. The coach called that play and gave the Bucs an easy first down. Parker needs to learn that pressure is 80% of pass coverage and unless he produces more pressure on the QB his banged up secondary is going to give up a lot of 3rd down conversions. Isn't it football 101 to pressure young QBs into making mistakes? The reason the Cowboys have no Interceptions is because they play such a safe soft zone and get no pressure on the QB.

It's not about learning the new system, it is about the scheme and play calling.

Capable pass-rushers that can get to the QB and finish, make a world of difference.

That only applies to the very few that were here for all 4 changes.

It takes time means you see visible improvement

You might give up 27 then 30 but you made the other team work harder for that 30 and got some bad breaks

There is no visible improvment ……Tampa beat Dallas the same way the Giants did…which means youve learned nothing…..

No one asked for a top 10, the expectation was BE AVERAGE

Make no mistake about it and to be very clear they’re bad….all of them from the DC down

Yes we have a new system (4th in four years I get that ) but with the amount of turnover we've had in players does it really matter if it was this system or Zimmer's? The new guys still have to learn either way

Yes it's true but then they can do account injuries lots of injuries in these spots key players like at least five And then new players come on like JPJ plays 25 snaps ends out the next game sick Kind of hard to get traction I'm not making excuses it's a little bad but this is different than just simply changing the coordinator and having a green new DC there's a lot of factors and new he's going to lease me two offseason to get in plays in here during the 3rd floor you're right five straight systems four different E CS running a 43 and some of those players are so new from Quinn they have to do purge They can't do that all in one season so normally it takes more time but then adding all these factors it takes even more time..

But the palyers said if you look at what happened Thursday night Turpin fumbles Ferguson and Florinor have balls bounce off their hands and in Ferguson he bounces his hands on his head Were they perfectly thrown hell no but could they have been caught hell yeah 100 percent that's what you get paid for everybody else gets paid to do your job too not just Prescott So that's three turnovers you can add in a game that you couldn't also block the blitz you couldn't run the ball,

The players I've already said it.. That was on them because at times they're stopping Tampa they're doing pretty good job and all of a sudden here comes 75 year run which by the way came through a very small little crack when there were a bunch of Cowboys plays I could have made that tackle.. Same with some of the other big plays I mean Oh my God it bland could have just made up for his whole bad start this year with a pick six had a ball hit right in the hands he acts so surprised he had seen a ball from that clothing in a while daddy chokes.

This isn't all on Parker but some of it is we heard all the commentary before the season about being multiples being flexible changing what he really wants to do if he necessary with his players he he can like adjust the steam he can run half man on one side half zone on the other I don't know what they call that but they're just split in multiple schemes they could try to find A better opportunities for Q. Williams the middle not just load up 1/2 gaps,

This is what I want to see I want to see some players get loaded come elevate or have the shift in reps have some get more reps and some less on both sides of all I want to see the coaching make changes with this small brick they have They have three or 4Xtra days they come up with something better..

That play was atrocious. I figured the most likely scenario was a defensive holding or illegal contact giving them a 1st. Seen that waaaay too much with this team. Or giving up a play that left them a yard or 2 short of the 1st down allowing them to go for it on 4th (and almost assuredly converting).
