Clock Management Again!

Hate to bring this up now and those of you who know me, know this.......

Before I even get into it, I know there was a TON of other stuff before and after this play, so in now way am I suggesting it to be as impactful as last week BUT..........

Was anyone else not freaking out that it took us a good 8-10 secs longer than it should have to call time out on the Giants last drive?

You know what I'm talking about.....Giants compeltion for a 1st down at the 1 yardline.

Tony should have had another 8-10 secs on that last drive. Would that have made THE difference? i'm guessing it doesn't BUT, that's not the point.....

This is football 101, after that completion, the clock is no longer our freind, it's our enemy and we have to start preserving it for what looks to be a needed score for us on the next possesion.

Been as big a Garrett guy as anyone, but this is unacceptable. These little things aren't really so little and you can't screw them up.

EVERYONE knew an immediate TO was the proper call in that spot except the person who most needed to know.

And OMT, he's not calling the defense on that final Giants drive, Ryan is. When we're on defense, that's when he absolutley should have nothing drawing attention away from his primary responsibility in that spot as HC.........CLOCK MANAGEMENT!

Yes but one of Garrett's weaknesses is game management.

I just hope we aren't the only people who realise it.

You could lip read from Jerry's own mouth "Call a timeout Jason".

Hell I raised the issue during the Patriots game about taking times out on defence and was laughed it. Guess I wasn't wrong.

Garrett is really dumb re time management.

Honestly, they should have just let jacobs score the first time, the way we were moving the ball, it was inevitable we were going to get in fg range. Would have been great having over a min with a timeout left.

And let them score on first down and save a timeout for goodness sake.

I wish Manninham had caught that td, we would have probably won.

Players can call timeouts too. So everyone clearly didn't know.

I don't think that cost the Cowboys the game.

It was Rob's fault....

When we were up 2 scored you have to make them work the field and burn clock. Not blitz like a flipping idiot.

Then our punter shanks it

The tackle was made with 1:15 remaining. We called timeout with 1:00 left.

I could understand waiting two or three seconds to see whether the Giants would call a timeout first, but there is no excuse for letting 15 seconds tick away -- especially after last week's debacle.

I actually said this exact thing last night. If you let them score from the 1, you save a TO and have an extra 10 seconds. If the TE scores from the 1 you save 2 TOs and have 1:12.

I can understand not laying down for a go ahead TD on principle, but it was readily apparent that they were going to score. It had turned into a track meet. We don;t have the players to pull off a NO or Det type stand.

:laugh2: I think you're right.

I hate the idea of telling your team to let the other guys score because it sets a questionable tone about the confidence you have in your defense, but I guess in some cases it's a necessary evil. It was only a matter of time - literally - before they scored. We could have saved about 10 seconds and a timeout if we just let them get in.

AND IT JUST GETS WORSE EVERY WEEK. Is that JJ's grandson behind Stephen? His "I can't look at this trainwreck'' during Bailey's missed field goal for the second week in a row was priceless" Pure GOLD........

Garrett had no idea what he was doing there. If you are going to take a time out, take one-nope, let 15 seconds tick away. Once you did call the TO, just let them score from the one--nope we play defense, stop then, lose more seconds and have to burn a TO. Strange sequence, yet again. :(

He didn't have an offseason to work with his player's and it's a process.

That thought crossed my mind as well, but I immediately dismissed it. You have to make them earn the score in that spot, even if it ends up leaving you little to no time.

Punching it in the endzone is still a task, even if it didn't seem that way last night. Percentages are still in your favor of keeping them out of the endzone and you have to play it straight up.

And we were fortunate they scored on 2nd down and not 3rd or we'd never have had a shot for a final drive.

But with all that said you have to be thinking clock management at the start of that drive. I even told my kid, that unless we got a sack in the right spot, there was no way the Giants were going to run out of time. We were either going to force a turnover, or stop them on a 4th down attempt or give up a TD.

So I'm thinking TO right at the start of that drive if I'm Garrett and calling one at the right time......as soon as that opportunity presents itself.

And that opportunity presented itself on that completion in side the 5 yard!

As soon as that ball is completed, I'm looking for a ref to call TO to before friggen play is even over and he's tackled short of the endzone.

If I'm thinking this, how the hell isn't Garrett thinking this? And we all know he wasn't because it took at least 8 secs longer than it should have to call the dam TO.

WOW! Was it really that bad? I was thinking 8-10 seconds, now I'm really pissed!

You thought percentages were on our side from the one yard line? I know it is tough to accept, but sometimes you have to let them score and last night was one of those times. Sucks, I know.

Evidence Jerry is smarter then most want to give him credit for ;)

At least our stupid GM called timeout for us.
