Clocking the ball

That was my take. It seemed like he was actually lining up a fiormation rather than just a clock set-up. I realize where WRs need to go and all, it just seemed too convoluted to me.
We only used one formation the entire second half.

I don't see how, other than OTree's incompetence, anything could be confused there.

So spiking?

Yes. It's called clocking when you do it just to stop the clock with the incompleted pass.

What other reason would you spike the ball?

End zone celebration.

The only reason the QB ever spikes the ball is to stop the clock. I think clocking and spiking are pretty much synonymous.

Well that's colloquialism vs. a legitimate term. Personally I never heard of "clocking" and it seems like it could mean spiking or kneeing so spiking is what we say.

Cool!

Tons of people say clocking. You've seriously never heard that?

I can't imagine asking a football coach what "clocking" means and him saying it means to take a knee.

How long have you been watching football? The term clocking is used pretty often to describe spiking the ball. And what does kneeing have to do with this? That doesn't stop the clock. I guess if they wanted to make it interesting they could call it "Permissible intentional grounding", but that's a lot of extra syllables.

I've been watching football my whole life. The play Marino ran vs. the Jets wasn't the fake "clock" it was the fake spike and that's how I've known it my whole life

Wasn't Ogletree messing up a year or two ago?

I seem to remember some cowboys game we (Skins) won where Austin was out and Romo was hopping mad at his wide recievers yelling at them on the field to get in the right spot during a last minute drive. (Seems like a pattern over the years, srsly.)

Not saying we don't have our bonehead things that recurr either. Like you should NEVER get a penalty for taunting or the like...and we pull that a lot. (But our players are on steroids and so ya know roid rage...:))
