It's odd right now, the season not technically over, a week left to play with results that could put our Cowboys in the playoffs. But all I feel is an anticipation that this wraps up and we start a new era. This decade of Garrett has been the worst stretch of my 47 year fandom.

I never bought into him and had to watch this play out in agonizing fashion - the bizarre losses, the underachievement, the disarray.

Now finally we are at the cusp of a new dawn. What it will bring we surely do not know, but personally after what we just went through I'm just happy to see dry land on the horizon and I'm willing to be patient throughout the detox process.

So here's to the future, we're not yet there but may it take us to a better place.

Well said.

I still can’t believe the next Landry was hired in the first place.

He was part of the problem.

It's honestly a shame that Garrett was hired in the first place, he was never qualified for a head coaching position not even close. He is a good bull shiter and nothing more.

What Jerry did is honestly irreparable, and only ego driven. I can't stand the man that he is, and what he has allowed to happen to our cowboys to prove a point..
The Garrett hire is all the evidence we need how dysfunctional this organization is. And staying the course our reality with Jerry’s personal ambitions. Unfortunately our future is limited.

Couldn’t agree more with this post. The old timers all knew a fraud from Day 1. At any rate, cheers and Merry Christmas.

many of the current posters probably know me only as a vocal Garrett critic

the reality is that when Garrett was hired I understood 2 things:

1. he was not qualified to be a HC

2. I thought (in hindsight incorrectly) that he had certain traits that good HCs do such as discipline, no nonsense, will hold players accountable, attention to detail, football experience, understanding Cowboys history, etc

as such I was hopeful that he would grow into a great HC and therefore I was supportive of him

However, in the first 2-3 years it became quite clear who he was, an incompetent spineless jellyfish who was unable to (or unwilling to) learn from his mistakes, unable to enforce discipline or accountability and was happy just to bend over for Jerry while he counted his money. About 7 years ago I posted that the Cowboys would never (yes, NEVER) win a SB with Garrett as HC. I take no pleasure in having been proven correct because, believe me, I would much rather have proven wrong and won a couple of SBs. However, as they say, when someone shows you who they are, believe them.

I then gradually became a Garrett critic because he continued in the same vein, happy to be mediocre and relevant. He always talked a good game, was tied to Jerry’s ego and had friends in the media and ex-Cowboys so he never got criticized and I gradually came to understand this and for these reasons I always said that he is the worst HC for us, yes, even worse than Campo because with Campo, everyone knew what we had (trash), Garrett gave the illusion of being a competent HC while actually being trash.

I’m glad and relieved that after years and years of garbage and mediocrity finally people see who he really is and Jerry will have no choice but to fire him

49 years for me. We have seen it all.

Beginning, close but no cigar, finally a SB followed by another. Constant competing in the playoffs, an expectation of an NFC championship game. Dandy Don , Morton to Roger to Danny. Still competitive and a team to be proud of . The dead years following , then the 90's 1 win season, Troy being sacked 11 times in one game, and then dominance in big games...

Garrett to me was hired because somehow Atlanta and Baltimore expressed interest in him so Jerry thought he was something special and as others have posted the next " Landry"

What the cowboys needed was the next Jimmy as the game had changed. Also Landry was a D innovator, and knew O well enough to call plays.

Garrett was not similarly skilled..... A reason to never consider him in the same vein....

20 + years not wandering the desert. 10 of which have been a " fools gold" hunt...

Maybe us old timers will only be able to remember those past glory days like the Springsteen song " they pass you by " , not where I thought we would be

I am also excited about the future if we get a new coach but it's dampened by the fact that Jerry Jones will still be the owner

But....the exact same Ringmaster will continue to conduct the circus

Jerry needs to just get out of the way and let the next guy do his thing. We have been the epitome of mediocrity over the past 24 years. At some point this has to change and I don’t think it will unless Jerry gets out of the way.

I know Jerry wants to win and does his best but he’s not the answer.

Bravo. It's been an 11 year cool canal

If only Jerry had gotten a real HC in 2007. I wonder how those teams would have been different? Parcells left a team ready to compete. Jerry flopped the bed.

I am excited to move forward from 10 years of horrible coaching, or a good part of 10 years.

However, I am also fearful Jerry may still take us further down the hell mouth of his coach and keep him.

Visionary,, I have a very close friend that is completely blind, diabetes is a horrible disease, but even my good friend, without the ability to see, has always said Garrett is total crap.
We talk frequently, and the subject always comes up about the ineptness of JG, but the problem unfortunately is much deeper than just replacing the HC.
That will keep some season ticket holders, and might sale a few more caps, but the real problem is the Al Davis clone that owns this team, and that's the sad fact that is not going to change.
