No matter what anyone thinks Jones and Phillips are not going to come out and rip on TO. Evidently there were issues enough so to cut ties with a player who was under contract. Why did they do it? Draw your own conclusions but in the end it will not be Jones and Phillips ripping TO nor should they there is nothing to gain by doing so, it is petty at best. Cowboys are moving on maybe some of you would like to move on as well.

Everyone with half a brain knows that TO was released for the following reasons.
  1. He's 35 and declining skills are right around the corner if they haven't yet arrived.
  2. He was due more guaranteed money come June.
  3. He was in the eye of the team chemistry storm.
It didn't happen before now because he has been extremely productive and its an admittedly risky move with lots of questions about how Dallas can fill that talent loss.

Why its so critically important to try to get Wade & Jerry to slip up and be non-PC is beyond me.

We have our answers, but for some reason its not good enough for some.

I agree with you 100%.

I don't see what upside JJ/Wade have in throwing TO under the bus.

Just move on.

In my line of work there is a lot of turnover. There is a saying we used to say when someone left/was fired/etc. "You don't talk ill about the dead." You say nothing provocative and move on.

I'd say it's one of the worst.

Why is he ripping Wade again? Because he wouldn't admit that TO caused chemistry problems? Because he wouldn't reveal what changes were being made?

This is the problem. If you don't talk, you're gagged or you won't face the music or whatever. If you do talk in typical vague coach-speak, people say you're stupid or dishonest because of the answers you give.

Which is why it's best to just not talk at all.
Im with you Choc. There nothing the guy can say. Its come to the point where all they do is take shots at you. Its a no win situation. That was one thing I really loved about Parcells he put them in their place.

Wade is who he is. Wow. That's so.....frackin obvious for everyone not psychotic, with Borderline Personality Disorder, Multiple Personality Disorder or in politics.

Your agenda is getting old. I do enjoy your show though.

I'm not a huge Wade fan. I'm healthy enough to see certain areas of Wade's personality, behaviors, and coaching abilities that are normal, healthy, and beneficial to the Cowboys. I do not have to see him in black and white or wonderful or sucky with nothing between.

Give it a rest. You're annoying with your agenda and indirect insults of others with opinions differing from your own.

This is my take as well.

I'm sure coach Josh McDaniel of Denver wished he would have kept his mouth shut instead of creating the situation he has with Cutler. There is little to gain talking to the media the more you can down play a situation or avoid derogatory remarks the better off you are. The media is dying for Jones or Phillips to lash out over TO they are not going to do it there is no reason to do so.

I feel like this article is typical of a reporter who didn't get the dirt he wanted, so intead he's taking it out on his source.

ATTENTION WORLDWIDE MEDIA....for the 1,000,000th time....TO is GONE...stop asking the SAME questions 1,000,000 ways....no matter how anyone in the organization responds to the 1m ways the question is being asked....it will not satisfy their unyielding appetite to CONTINUE to talk about him.

If I were anyone associated with the Cowboys organization...I would simply say TO is not longer a Cowboy....we appreciated his efforts while he was here.....we wish him well wherever he is....NEXT QUESTION. If you do NOT have any questions about the 2009 Cowboys....interview OVER!!!!!!!!!

Of course you would say that.

You are a Wade defender.

Got to love messageboardland where everyone has to be pigeonholed into one camp or the other with no in-between.

I don't defend Wade on everything. He's not a good speaker, he's too defensive about his record, and he's more an Xs and Os guy as a head coach than a great leader.

I do defend him when refusing to trash TO and turn over details of his plans for the team to Don Freaking Banks is supposed make him clueless or a dufus. Every coach fibs to the media and talks in meaningless generalities exactly like this. But for some reason here we're supposed to believe it's a sign of some kind of character flaw or lack of intelligence. I think that's ridiculous.

100% dead on.

Phillips said some ridiculous things, just as Jerry Jones has. If you're not going to tell the truth don't insult everyone by saying "TO was great. Most productive WR in football. Great team guy..... but we're better off by cutting him."

That's idiotic. If it were Zorn trying to dance around something like that, the TO fan club would be front and center with smilies galore. The only answer that makes any sense is "TO's not a part of this team; I wish him well," or some such. What Phillips and Jones have said makes them look like fools.

or politicians. This is America right now. You have to be PC because god forbid that what you think might offend someone else.

Let's not kid ourselves.

Wade isn't a media savvy guy and he never will be. And he's not a great interview.

Phillips is simply an honest guy who usually gives it to ya' straight, even when he shouldn't.

But in this instance, he seems to have been 'well-coached' about what to say and what not to say.

And I definitely think it's the right way to play it.

Nothing to be gained by either Owens or the Cowboys in slinging mud at one another.

And for that reason, the press hates it.

Why?

Because they can't make any money off of the controversy angle.

I have to disagree. IMO he is a guy that never gives it straight, nor does jerry and that is the main reason for the problems he has with the media.

they are always selling sunshine. Everything is always ok and every player is a hall of famer when these two guys talk. Wade has shown here that he will take credit when things are going good and he will shrivel up and pass the buck when things are going bad. Reporters see right through that in him and by being that way he gets pushed around in the media, and unfortunately in his locker room.

Its going to be a long miserable year for wade win or lose. He is a lame duck with some terrific coaches waiting in the wings. I think it is going to take this team a couple of games to adjust to playing without buffalo bill, and if we get off to a 2-3 start of something people are going to freak, most likely prematurely.

So by october 1 I imagine the biggest story in Dallas will be Mike holmgren and Mike Shannahan are waiting to take this job. Then wade will have to deal with the lingering buffalo bill questions, the questions on romo, the questions on his now out in the open dual role, the play of the team and ultimately the guys looking over his shoulder to take this job.

I personally dont think he is equipped to handle that and at some point it will blow up in his face. I hope not, but I havent seen a thing from the guy that tells me can handle difficult situations.

Nailed what?

That Wade is "divorced from reality"?

LOL

How should Wade answer these ridculous questions about a player who is not on the team anymore.

Why would a "journalist" (LOL) even want to report on last years news?

This "article" (LOL) is a joke and the author an ambulance chasing hack just trying to get some more mileage from the greatest gift to no talent "journalists" (LOL) that ever played.

I'm not particularly a Wade Defender, and I agree with CL. Clear case of a coach avoiding controversy, which was the smart thing to do, and then a reporter smacking him for it. Other than the obvious dishonestly about why TO was released, I didn't hear anything confusing in what Wade had to say today.

I agree. For the me the jury is certainly still out on Wade as a head coach--I already know he is a very good to excellent (non HC) coach. One thing I do like about him is that he seems above the fray without this petty crap that goes on around him. He tends to always try to take the high road. People mistake it as if he is clueless...no chance, he has seen it all in this league.

I'm not sure how that serves him well as HC, but as a person, my guess is that is a very good one.

That is exactly what he nailed.

How should he answer these questions? Like he had some marbles instead of "all is well" mumbo jumbo. If all is well, why is he gone? If all is well why did the team miss the playoffs?

Oh yeah, 13-3. There's your reality. Great marriage.

There's no right answer for Wade - the media wants him to flat out say that he's a cancer and that the Bills made a mistake because actually going out and composing an original story is too much work.

The horse decomposed long ago - at this point, they're slugging dirt.

wwhd? What would you do? If Wade goes into the whole TO thing he would have created a firestorm of controversy that might never end. TO would be firing them back. It just would not be beneficial to the team.

I think the more likely scenario is that Wade is very much aware of reality.
  • The reality that his football team underachieved last year.
  • The reality that his boss was very upset about it.
  • The reality that his future as HC in Dallas is very much in doubt.
  • The reality that TO's distraction factor finally outweighed his contributon factor.
  • The reality that the best way to move on is not to stir the pot by being critical.
  • The reality that public speaking under intense scrutiny is not his strong suit.
  • And finally, that in the Dallas media you are darned when you do speak and darned if you don't.
I don't believe for as second that Wade buys all that he offers through the media. And you shouldn't either.
