WHITHER PACMAN? From Chuck Hudson, of Boise, Idaho: "When he is on the field, Pacman Jones is arguably one of the best defensive backs in the league. Off the field, well ... As a Cowboys fan, the rumor that they are interested in him if he is put on the trading block concerns me. What is your take?''

My take is if Jerry Jones can get him cheap -- say, for a conditional second-day draft pick -- and can put enough behavior-related safeguards in the contract, he'd do it. As for the morals of the deals, well, I don't think it would stand in the way if Dallas thought he was good enough.

Pacman is nowhere near one of the best corners in the game. If Dallas could get him w/o having to trade for him and give him a Tank Johnson type deal, I'd be for it because Pacman would probably be a good #3 corner with #1 corner upside and can return punts and there's little repercussions if he doesn't work out. But he was a weak corner in Tennessee.

The only way I care about a deal like this, at all, is if its for a conditional 6th or 7th round pick and the contract is LOADED with behavioral clauses. I mean if the kid so much as sneezes in the wrong place, at the wrong time, he can be cut.

Are you sure about your analysis of Pacman Rich? I thought Joyner showed that he had pretty good numbers?

I would rather Jerry give a number 1 to the Raiders for Nnamdi Asomugha.

You must not have watched many Titan games.Pac Man is an arse but he is a great yes great corner. He shuts people down and when needed has single handidly won games for them.He completely shut T.O. down. Also add that to the fact that he is a great yes great kick returner.Better look back.

I have the 2006 book on me and Joyner states that Pacman had a horrible first half in 2005 and then a pretty good second half in 2005.

I can't find my 2007 Scientific Football book, but I remember Pacman's stats were not very good. I also remember comparing them to STATS Pass and they were pretty close to each other, which wasn't good.

Even still, if Pacman Jones was one of the best defensive backs in the league, I interpret that as him being a top 5 cornerback in the league. And I don't really care what NFL people may say, if he was truly a top 5 corner, there would be a lot more teams interested in him right now. Also, he can't tackle to save his life.

I think his upside is to be one of the best corners in the game. He has ball skills like Asante and Cromartie, great agility, and catchup speed. His faults all have to do with coaching (i.e. positioning).

If he's better than Reeves/Crayton it would be a net win in my book.

YAKUZA

I believe he did rate top 5 from mid 2005 on.

He is a serious threat because of his speed.

The issue is three-fold for teams though.
1. He will want to get paid.
2. He is one strike away from a really long suspension again.
3. He has to be rusty as heck.

A team like Dallas can use him because he can come in and be that 3rd CB and punt returner upgrade right away. Ina year he could replace Henry and may even allow you to franchise TNew and then allow his to move along if he wants too much money at age 31.

I'd still prefer to draft two guys but CB is a position where it is just so hard to find humans athletic enough to play the position and he can do so easily. In fact probably too easily.

The guy was already a very good corner and all he did was party.

And how are you so sure that there are not a lot of teams interested? You won't hear many blurbs about other teams drawing interest in him until he is actually reinstated. The only reason why we are hearing trade rumors and Cowboy blurbs is because Pacman came out himself on different occasions and said he wanted to play for Dallas.

As for his talent, I would love to have him. He is a pro-bowl caliber CB with the shutdown cover ability of Newman and the play making abilities of a healthy Henry. Then you can factor in his game changing kick return abilities.

There is a thread about getting a "Wow" player, and Pacman is definitely Wow.....

Uh........he definitely IS. (IMO/FWIW and it doesn't mean I want him in Dallas either).

To suggest he is "nowhere near one of the best corners in the game" is just plain wrong.
