Maybe this isn’t directly Cowboys related but I think it is.
Why are teams allowed to hire new coaches and interview candidates when the season is still active?
Wouldn’t it be more helpful for the teams and all potential candidates if teams were not allowed to interview or hire candidates, unless it’s internal, until after the Super Bowl?
How is this directly related to the Cowboys? For one...we had our defensive play caller taking interviews during a game week in fear of losing out on an opportunity.
Also...maybe Jerry would’ve considered moving on from Garrett but not for any of the remaining candidates. Maybe our most preferred offensive coordinator candidate took a job somewhere else while our season was still going on.
This would also be a way for teams to give internal candidates a fair shot and also...those coordinators that get left out because they’re in the midst of playoff runs get a fair shot.
Seems like a win-win. I don’t see how it’s logical. If anything, the networks could promote the “coaching hiring process” and monetize it further.
Our current system is as logical as it would be if Tom Brady retires and the Patriots were able to “tamper” and get a head start on the free agent QB market before any other team.
