Coach Shotty is growing on me

Love how he makes shout out to back ups. He does to Joe Milton and he also mentions Hunter Luepke when asked about Blue. Creating competiton. Love it!!

I know a lot of people seem to have an issue with a first time head coaches, that seemingly didn't deserve it ,but I really don't get that it happens a lot they either come from college maybe they used to be a head coach in college but they don't make it in the NFL..

The big time head coaches that have come from college have failed in the NFL, The zone also seems to have a problem with the ones they consider retreads, And I'm not sure where the in between is I mean of the Cowboys just supposed to pull a first time head coach that's not green, I don't know how that's possible or another head coach from somewhere else that used to be a head coach that's not a retread seems like very odd area of expectation and acceptance in the COMPLAINT Zone...

But if it's another team they seem to be OK with the Jaguars pulling Cohen seemingly from nowhere, I didn't even know who the guy was you have Aaron Glenn whose whole career didn't get a chance but because he was on a super team with a bunch of good players he's looked at as a great prospect, but he's still a green first time head coach ,that goes for Ben Johnson ,and Last but not least old Kellen Moore... Things like the nfl just does this but Jerry's the only one who's criticized for it there's only 2 options it's a flip of a coin and you just got to hope it works out....

Somehow this is OK but our other choices would have been Bill Belichick ,who I already been okay with my choice but would have came with circus like Sanderesque following, probably would have been Pete Carroll as my choice,

but one way or the other we were going to get either a retread or take a flyer on a first time head coach , and the reason I bring this up is cause there's too many posts about Brian's wasn't wanted by anyone else so he's the first time head coach this is going to be a disaster this year everybody seems complacent and they don't believe in the guy..

And this really popped in my head when I was looking at some controversy going on over with the Titans then I realized some guy named Brian Callahan no not Bill Callahan, brian Callahan is the head coach of the Titans.. ODD!!

i've never heard of him.. Apparently there's nepotism in the NFL not on the Dallas Cowboys, because the son of Bill Callahan Got a job with a professional sports team in the NFL and I don't think anybody had him at the top of any lists but I remember lots and lots of assistance with big names that were on top of a lot of people's lists or like I said above the college guys and none of them did that well , seems there is no blueprint, there is no perfect choice...

How about we give the guy a chance and by the way so far the way he picked his staff I think it's one of the strongest staffs we've had in years,
I think the way he's encouraged Jerry and Stephen to do a little bit more this offseason the way they handled the draft way they handled the media the way they're handling reports from camp the way he handles themselves in these interviews, IM pleasantly surprised.....

I don't see the damn problem.... You all make this a problem,

how about we let the guy have two to three seasons and just see how it works out in the end this what all teams do they either get retreads or they try something new which by the way Nick Siriani, you know the new shiny Super Bowl winner been to the Super Bowl twice in the last four years or whatever.. nobody really liked him , had signs of break up and being fried, nobody knew really who he was he had less of a resume than Brian Schottenheimer especially when you figure BS at least had a coaching tree his dad coached in the nfl for well over a decade and very successful by the way..
so, it's ok for other teams to do it but if our team does it , NYG with Dabol , Sirani and retread in DQ, we get criticized to no end that Jerry just likes to have a puppet and a yes man, well I don't see the difference.

By the way ,

that's a terrible narrative all coaches should be scared of their GM and their owner they said oh be careful what they say and do because they all have someone to answer too. In the end they're all puppets in the end they absolutely need to make sure they're making their boss happy, that is how it works....

off the soap box...

Yeah Siriani's wiki looks awfully similar to Shottys. Does it mean we are going to get same results? No of course not but when you listen to how he handles press conference and media it is easy to see why the Jones' and the players like him. There have also been many hot coordinators turn coaches that just didn't work out too. Winning changes everything so I for one hope he is successful.

No one can overcome Jerry being Jerry.

Be it the personal relationships with players, the postgame press conferences, or the philosophy of building through corners, receivers and backup tight ends….or any of the rest of it that no other owner or GM does…

Shoddy will likely not succeed here, but that says very little about his actual ability. If he somehow overcomes the Jerry factor, the slot for my third favorite HC in team history is wide open.

I was just trying to make that point i'm tired of hearing about how green first year Coaches are, oh they're going to struggle and all that, unless they are anywhere else, I mean other teams. do this you either get a retread or you get somebody green.

it is what it is everybody's trying to find the right mix and I just brought up him because he was close to being fired a few years in a row over there his own team he was grinding on them one get along with some of the players but in the end that Green nobody that nobody else thought of hiring, you know the same narrative we're hearing about Schottenheimer was able to get it done..

I remember a guy named Jimmy Johnson that nobody was going to give a chance to because they were so angry tom Landry was fired, at the time not many college coaches were adapting to the NFL well, and really haven't since, there's not a whole lot of them that get promoted from college to the pros and do something in the NFL because we saw Meyers and Saban and Petrino and Kelly they all failed.. they were some of the best minds in college football and couldn't make it but Jimmy Johnson busted through the cap and Nick Siriani busted through the cap, and these are just a few examples..

so, there's no reason that it would be impossible for Brian Schottheimer to also do it except for one thing if he's held back by the general manager, you know they don't help him enough when he needs it or if he asks for it.

That's the one thing that Sirianni got with the Eagles, Howie Rosema will do almost anything it takes to make sure he keeps replenishing the roster..... Jerry, stay tuned LOL

Speaking of which, for the life of me I don't understand,

if Jerry wants to be right and prove to everyone he smarter everyone else, this would be the moment ,

he missed it with Jason Garrett,

but if he really wanted to go out and just show the world; go get Nick Chubb go get Gilmore or make a trade for Jalen Ramsey; and go ahead and give this green coach nobody has any faith in everything you possibly can, within reason to have success and do it right now...
You've already had an impressive offseason a solid draft and you go and bring in George Pickens why don't stop there just bring in Chubb and another corner and let's just try to push this over the top right now jerry's version of all in that's all he would need to do..

Since we're all giving opinions here, my first gut reaction is that Shotty is personable like Garret but without the cheesy fakness.
Garret lost the players with his rah rah idioms and out-of-touch persona....

If I'm being honest, when Shotty was hired, I liked his direct messaging when talking with the media, I quietly thought to myself that this guy is super impressive
So it doesn't surprise me he got a chance.

Having said all of that, he is a total unknown in terms of in-game adjustments, player management, and a hundred other things.. All we can do is hope Jerry finally stumbled and got things right..

as Is Moore, Cohen, Glenn, and Johnson.. ALL in the same boat..5 GREEN 1st time HCs. AS WAS Nick Sirani... He was just as green and just as unknown and I very head scratching higher he's been to two Super Bowls and 11 stranger things have happened....

This...

Garret was a likeable guy to a certain extent. We probably all know someone like him (and if you don't, that means your probably that guy...lol). Nice guy but fake and can wear on you.

Shotty seems like he's being real...but I guess time will tell.

Not sure he has the stones to stand up to the Jones family....that's gonna be the key here

I don't like a coach that is all buddy buddy so they like me. That was a Garrett style and it looks like it's going to be the same old thing.

I wonder if Coach Landry or Coach Jimmy would approve of that?

Punk azz Cowboys, until further notice.
Nah Garrett was a fake coach as ever can be. In fact, he was picky. He only hanged around with Romo and Witten. While he never worked on people like Dez. At least Shotty is not inclusive as both Garrett and Mcarthy was and is trying to change the culture. Different strokes for different folks.

I didn't like the Schotty hire at all. But so far he's been doing the right thing. Something Garrett never did his entire 9 years with the Cowboys.
