Coach Witten

It would be a dream come true if Witten became the Cowboys head coach one day. Dreams are cool, like that re-occurring dream I have of me as the cameraman filming Janet Jackson's All For You video and wait wut..?

I think a big advantage right now is that Witten and Romo are clearly player/coach types to Prescott. Dak has said it repeatedly and even as amazing a kid as Dak is, he wouldn't have come this far this fast if wasn't for both Witten and Romo helping him.

Fans want to make the situation into some big conflict, but the reality is that there are a lot of excellent human beings on this team.

The hours are too long and the money too little for most athletes who have banked a lot of money in their careers. I doubt he or Tony would be interested, but it's fun to think about.

+1
You see a few nfl players show up later as coaches...but usually it's not the top salary guys. You might see a Del Rio, a Norton..

That's what I was thinking. Romo would be a good QB coach and/or offensive coordinator. My dream scenario is we win the super bowl and Then Romo retires but stays on the staff as a QB coach for Dak. He's basically been a player/coach for Dak while he's been injured and that seems to be working out well for everyone.

Sean Lee
Jason Witten
Tony Romo
Darren Woodson
Travis Frederick

All above would make great coaches for us..
I'd love Woodson on this staff as a defensive coordinator. I just love Woodson, he's my favorite 90's Cowboy. I still wear his jersey.

When Witten retires, Jerry needs to hire him as an assistant coach and groom him to be the Cowboys head coach one day. I can't think of any former or current player that I would rather have. Anybody have any other suggestions?
What TE has he helped? Marellus Bennett said he was tell him to figure it out.

Tony will do whatever it takes to get himself a ring...even if its as a coach. Guaranteed.

Witten may want to then again a lot of guys do not want to put in the long hours that coaches must put in. When players go home at the end of practice the coaches stay and continue to put in the work.

I would not put much into what Bennett has to offer. Even his own father says Marellus marches to the beat of a different drummer.

For the love of the game. Was that to corny?

That is true. That would be a major reason why Witten would want to. I always felt that Darren Woodson would be a great coach after all he was pretty much a coach on the field during his playing days much like Dan Reeves when he was actually playing and being asked to become an assistant coach.

Perhaps Witten might be a good one to replace TE Coach Pope whenever both retire. He'd be an ideal candidate for that.

If he were to instruct each our future rookie TEs to block, run routes and get open like he does, it'd be an ongoing benefit.

You certainly could be right, but i just don't see him giving up his family life to coach. Time will tell, I guess.

He does, but I would not dismiss it. We have drafted TEs in the 2nd rd, atleast 3 times if not 4. None of them have done anything in Dallas. I do not think Witten helps people out.

Swain is looking pretty good both as a blocker and receiver. Granted they do not get the playing time in large part because of Witten but would not blame that on Jason

Cowboys tight ends coach Mike Pope said Friday that he can already see the athleticism in Gathers, but knows the 6-6, 273-pounder has a long way to go.
Has Pope taken on a project like Gathers before?
"Well, I've been married twice, so I've taken on some projects in my time," Pope said. "He can't play full speed until he's absolutely sure what he's doing. I think we'll see that jump out of him as we go forward, but it's going to be a little while."
Gathers hasn't played organized football in nine years, so he's going to need all the help he can get.
Fortunately for the Cowboys, there's a 10-time Pro Bowler who will be in the same position room.
"Witten is the 13th Disciple," Pope said, "he helps everybody."

Has there ever been a player who made huge money, then turned to coaching? I can't think of one.

Guys like Del Rio, Wade Wilson, Jason Garrett and Ken Norton didn't make enough money to just golf the rest of their lives after retirement. They had to keep working and coaching was a natural fit.

Romo and Witten don't have that problem, if you want to call it that. They can do whatever they want. I don't see them going through the grind of being a coach.
