Try to explain this one. Against the Eagles on our own side of the field go for it on fourth down. Inside the 3 yard line against the lions we kick a field goal. This is how Prescott is better than a Cooper Rush. The coaching staff knew against the Eagles we need to get first downs for not gonna get another chance. Whereas against the Lions they knew we would come back. We left 14 points on the field yesterday. Noah Brown fumble. And I don’t blame him that was a massive hit. And not going for it on fourth down inside the three online

Apples to oranges situations here.

Exhibit A the Lions game. The game was 3-0. We did not look like we were playing well at all. However, Romo explained it best. You take the 3, you tie the game up and keep it a one score game. They already forced 3 and outs. If they stop us as it was a long 2 yards, you give them even more momentum. When you are the better team, you don’t want to give the other team any opportunities to stick around and win. Simply look how the Giants won 6 and almost all 7 of their games. If we are stuffed, the go score and convert even one more TD we could’ve been on the other end of the 24-6.

Exhibit B the Eagles game. The game was 14-0 on hostile territory. We once again, played like crap until that point. This was trying to jumpstart the offense and get a drive going.

One was to not rock the boat and keep it from filling with water. The other was an attempt to bail yourself out as the boat was sinking.

I understand Romo’s explanation. But I was very surprised that they didn’t go for it. To total different situations with different results

Simple, I think they were already down 14 and the defense was struggling. 3-0, taking the points made sense.

Maybe it's because I'm an idiot, but I don't understand what the post is about? Do you want someone to rationalize why they went for it on 4th down vs Philly, but not against Detroit?

Those two situations seems nothing alike to be honest. One gets you points, the other doesnt. One is against a better team where you need to be more aggressive, and you needed some sort of spark for your team. One was just buffoonery by a head coach that wont challenge a clear 1st down.

I’m not sure who wanted to go for it , Kellen Moore, or McCarthy or Prescott

No I want to know what your thoughts are would you have done the same thing. If you were a coach what was your decision. How much rather talk about a football situation. Much better than , Some of these topics go around here

Football is all about momentum and trying to limit your mistakes. If we were playing the Eagles and it were late, I would go for it. But remember how the Broncos game started last season?

They stopped a 4th down. We forced a 3 and out. They stopped ANOTHER 4th down. They went and scored. They then forced a punt after 4 plays. They went down and scored. They forced another punt after 4 downs and went and scored a FG. If they kick those FGs it’s 16-6 instead of 16-0 and your offense isn’t sputtering

Against Philly we were playing a much better football team and needed to take some chances. When you’re an underdog on the road, playing against a better team, you have to pull out all the stops. Jimmy used to do it all the time when he first took over the Cowboys. Against Detroit it was a close game and we were able to play a lot safer. We were the better team.

Thank you for your input. Just trying to change the subject my cowboy brother. I understand both situations,

Would you have gone for against the Lions yesterday

I guess the coaches just don't trust Dak to get the TD yesterday so they kicked a FG instead.

That was your logic last week for Rush, right? That the coaches just didn't trust him?

Not my question, but absolutely not.

Everybody knew the play was going to play action and roll Dak right hoping to find Schultz or Gallup in the back of the end zone

I was asking someone else that question. They only gave half an answer. Lol oh that’s right you already said that.

I thought Prescott was going to run for a touchdown but Tony Pollard never kept the rout going he cut it to the sidelines. Prescott had no choice but running out of bones

I was somewhat torn about either going for it or kicking the FG but I think we made the right decision. I would’ve done the same thing. Our offense was sputtering at that time, and it was better to take the 3 points because our defense was playing real good.

Against the better teams who are not just better on paper before the game but are also winning against your strength they felt they had to go all out in order to stay in the game. Even though the lions putrid defense was keeping dak and company at bay the Cowboys defense reminded the NFL they are one of the best and Micah doesn't get embarrassed twice in a row. With how the offense was playing you just didn't know if they would see much of the lions side of the field. Luckily the cowboys defense owned that potent offense.

..depends on perspective. Anytime you go for it, 50/50 gamble goes into play.

It was early in the game, taking points was best for situation.

I too.... thought MM would go for it.

N. Brown dropped 2 balls on massive hits. Maybe needs work on holding ball tighter on brink of contact.
