Coaching Matters

As a coach, I always said, talent trumps coaching, and that may be true, but there is nothing better than a good staff, with good talent.
This years staff has me excited....I've seen the following example, up close and personal.
An older, proven HC versus a young, rookie HC. Seen this and I feel this is happening with our team....MM came back for one last chance, a paycheck that sets him up for life and to get it out of his system. It's not easy, walking away, with gas left in the tank. The 85 to 90 hour work weeks...the locker room banter, the sold out stadiums, the Gatorade baths, the game planning, the getting drunk with your guys after a great week, the ripping the refs on the 50 yard line, the radio shows, etc, etc, etc great times!! ..on the other hand is Schotty, a longtime assistant with high expectations, the excitement he is feeling right now is like carrying your wife across the threshold and sitting and watching her walk towards you on your honeymoon. You only get one chance at your first time....for the players, MMs speeches were old and uninspiring, Schotty is full of energy, wearing new lingerie with spaghetti straps! Lol.....let's see how sexy his game is!

By the way,

yes I'm giving this guy a full chance, I like what I've seen, I like the coaching staff he put together, and yes his energy, the things he says...

I realize he wasn't the first choice but I'm giving him a full chance meaning, I'm not gonna judge him off one game, or 5 games...

I want to see what he does over 17 games and then we can have a really knowledgeable debate,

I don't want to hear these over reactions game to game or play to play, but that's going to happen ,that's what people do in here, they're not going to like his first series and they're going to say see we shouldn't have hired the guy....

I will give Shotty a chance. Hope all his years waiting in the wings will propel him to coaching nirvana. All of the ideas and experiences he has collected finally being unleashed in the once in a lifetime chance to be a NFL head coach will be interesting to watch. The team will be a work in progress and I am not expecting nothing but growth this season with year 3 being the one I expect this team to make noises into the playoffs.

Schotty needs a good start. If we start 1-6, 2-5 it could get ugly. The honeymoon would end quickly.

Dan Campbell’s Lions were trash for about 1 1/2 yrs until they bought in and started clubbing teams into submission . Jimmy was 1-15 out of the gate . Sure I want a fast start and am hoping for playoffs but let’s see what happens. .

Glad to hear you’re liking what you’re seeing from the coaches. I’m loving the mentality of being a physical team in the trenches, stop the run and be serious about running the ball on offense. That will equal good results especially if the defense can jell.

No other team thought enough of him to interview him. This is the FO again thinking they are outsmarting the league
It’s playing out to be a great story isn’t it? Don’t try and get onboard as you’ve made your bed.

That depends on the situation. but I don't think he's very accepted now...

so I don't think there is a honeymoon, And for me again I'd have to watch why they are starting the season like that, could be injuries ,et cetera

I mean look at Mike Mccarthy first year Hell look. it Dan Campbell's first year. Do you remember Jimmys first year, I mean come on the whole year is going to need to be assessed with a real eye, no emotions involved...

I mean my point is, I don't think he's being accepted now, He could be judged series to series, they're going to say why didn't he run more or pass more right out of the box first series against Philadelphia, They'll be the honeymoon for some will be over there it is board's going to blow up with I told you so...

Guy needs a shot and some time, and I guarantee he's not being fired after Year 1 unless something really goes sideways where he and Jerry don't get along something off the field happens...

Strap it on ,if you don't like the guy it doesn't matter, he'll get two to three seasons here like he should he's got to purge the old ways the old system some of the old players and get his vision in in place sometimes it takes more than one year...

You're right,

the board is going to judge him the zone's going to be harsh the fans are going to be really harsh,

But it's not going to matter, because it doesn't change a thing you are not exacting any kind of change with the ugly hater type post the same with the people in the stands with the poster boards fire Nico, Fire Jerry, pay parsons.

I mean those are all nice, but you know what Nobody cares the people who are important do not care they make decisions based on their experience ,which they have a lot more than any of us in here, And I understand why fans do this but it won't make a damn difference of what you think about our head coach or the staff..

It is very rare to see a first-year head coach gets fired, it's not fair, even in college you literally got to let them at least get some of the changes they want in place and that usually takes more than one off season.

I wish I could share your optimism. And I respect your insight as a former coach.

Coaching is an important aspect. I’ve seen at your level in high school how great coaching has built and maintained powerhouse programs regardless the talent from year to year.

College is based more on recruiting and NFL n the drafts. The greater talent you amass the greater the opportunity for success. But it definitely takes both.

Preseason, training camp and draft, etc is a time for renewed optimism. Reality doesn’t begin until after Labor Day.

We shall find out. It’s always fun starting the season . Everyone starts 0-0.

What's turning out be a great story? He's actually starting out with a pretty bad situation. His best defensive player is holding out, and even if he does get signed he has not practiced once with the new DC we have. We have no DTs, RB is a huge question mark, his starting qb hasn't taken a live snap since November 3rd of last year and was playing horribly before that (Mahomes was out there playing yesterday), starting LT is most likely out the first game

And right there as well we just need to get this Parsons drama out of the way so I can feel even better.... I'm looking forward to what they're going to do with all the cutdowns changes players they might bring back some trades and yes get Parsons signed by Thursday the 28th so we can just know that he's preparing for game one against the Eagles with focus....

Given equal or close to it talent coaching is the deciding factor

in this day and age the talent discrepancy is not that big except at the very bottom and very top of the league.

and talent can quickly be accumulated by top FO

there are not that many top coaches; probably half a dozen.

Out coaching a superior team has happened

so unlike Jethro I do not think 500 coaches could have won that last SB
