Coaching Upgrade Question

Kellen Moore should not have replaced the current qb coach. Either hire an experienced qb coach or leave the one we have in the position.
right! why would you hire a guy who couldn't earn a starting QB job?
It's all about relationships in Dallas, no one cares about winning or at least it seems they way they hire and hold on to mediocre coaches

IT's a country club. Just like Jimmy Johnson said.

If you watched all or nothing that was pretty apparent.

If you fire Linehan now, you likely aren't finding a quality OC right now to coach the team. Garrett has to take over play calling at that point.

And at this point, changing coordinators is just a worthless exercise.

If this season continues to trend as it is, there is only one clear cut correct decision. Fire the head coach and start over with a new staff.
this and don't bring in a retread hire a head coach that believes in concepts from the modern day nfl

The problem is that no valuable coach wants to come to Dallas and attach puppet strings, no one wants to coach this franchise, especially if you aren't involved in important decisions.

I disagree.

I think it's Jerry that doesn't want the quality coach.

He got Bill Parcells and if he can get Parcells he can get anyone.

Dallas has defensive talent, Oline talent, stud RB, possibly a high draft pick, and loads of cap space.

If we don't get a good coach it's on Jerry.

The whole Puppet strings thing seems to be BS because every coach that's worked for him and people inside the building say that the Head Coach gets a ton of say and they do everything as a group.

Where I don't trust Jerry is him finding the right guy vs just finding someone he feels comfortable with.

He's comfortable with Garrett but Garrett is a bad coach. He needs to find a good coach that he's comfortable with.

With Jerry a coaching change is just rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

Jerry doesn't want a strong, prominent HC with power and authority. He wants a yes man who will wear the headset on game day while he micromanages and meddles and plays fantasy football with the team.

We could've had quality HC's throughout the last 25 years, but instead Jerry gave us guys like Gailey, Campo, Wade and Garrett. The only outlier was Parcells when Jerry was desperate for support for a new stadium and decided to relinquish some control in order to have someone try to right the ship after the disastrous Gailey/Campo years. But after that we went right back to yes men.

Jerry would rather lose his way than win like we did with Jimmy while the coach gets the credit.

I agree to some extent, I just think there is too much involvement. You noticed how they are in the coaches meetings and things??

Garrett seemed pretty in control of those meetings. Jerry and Stephen were just there and asking questions.

I never saw a demanding Jerry or Stephen Jones.

I just think they are terrible at evaluating coaches and I Think JErry still buys into that 1990's way of thinking football is played.

TRUE

There is simply no point in switching anything right now ; the decision was made after last year's Eagles game to retain this sub-par HC , OC and a newbie as QB coach who sucked as a QB , ditch Dez , and make the offense "Dak Friendly" (which looks like it means even worse than last season)...............

We're just going to have to ride out this season with the status quo , which appears at this point to be incredibly disappointing.................

Maybe the Raiders will fire Chuckie after going 0-8 mid season and Jerry will sign him after we go 1-7. Lol

I swear, I saw a 13 year old apply just for this position, even stated he would bring his OWN etch a sketch!!!!

I think you fire Garrett and replace him with Marinelli while giving Richard a more DC role. Let the offense run wild until next season. Marinelli will get some minor role in the FO and Richard DC. Hire a HC and OC.

Marinelli has proven to be a terrible HC. He's wade phillips 2.0.

He wishes he was Wade Phillips.

Wade can actually coordinate defenses in the modern era.

Marinelli is a great D line coach but that's his lane and he needs to stay in it.

The thing that makes me shake my head about this offense is this: By last November, Garrett knew the offense needed an overhaul. Defenses were routinely stuffing the run and the passing game was broken. A once effective offense was stagnant.

What did Garrett and Linehan do to fix it? Apparently almost nothing. Does this offense look any different with formations, tendencies, and adjustments to what the league has been doing to stymie this offense since the Denver game last year?

And the worst part of it all is you can’t overhaul an offense in the middle of the season. Especially with a HC and OC that are about as creative as a drill sargeant. When I watch a Cowboys game now, they are running the same plays, same stuff they did when Romo was here in 2014, with a QB whose skill set is completely different than Romo. Garrett’s biggest failure as an offensive coach is his inability to change the offense to match the skills of the players he has.

Firing Linehan or even Garrett at this point will change little. Jerry may have to fire JG by mid season if it’s obvious this team has quit on his developing “Tom Landry” and it’s obvious they aren’t going anywhere. Being 1-2 isn’t a death sentence yet for an NFL team, but something feels different this year. Because it all looks the same.
Didn’t do anything to fix it? Really ???

We used a 2nd round for LG.
Drafted another backup QB.
Hired a new QB coach.
Let Dez go cause he wasn’t Dak friendly.
Signed 2 WR in FA and traded for another.
Signed a FB in Free Agency.

No, we didn’t do anything to address our offense. Lol

I doubt Marinelli would even accept the job if they offered it to him. He's got one foot out the door already and is actively looking to be replaced as a coordinator. The man wants to be left alone to coach his Rushmen until he retires. Nothing wrong in doing what you love and what you're best at.

Instead of all of these moves we could have just drafted one of the QB in 1st round and we’d be in much better shape.

We can surround a turd with all of the aromas you want but in the end it’s still going to smell and look like crap.

The turd has floated to the top of the bowl. It’s time to flush.

Marinelli will retire

I'd like to see

Kris Richards or
Dan Campbell

as HC

if we go college Shaw

What about Bill Belichick to run football ops? Or even Mike Holmgren.

IMO, Real answer is Sean Payton after the season ends. Let him pick his own staff.

If not,
Lincoln Riley as HC, -- he just seems to see how plays unfold.
Kingsbury as OC or QB coach -- he has been coaching Manziel, Mahomes, Webb, and Mayfield. Two Heisman QB's and a stud NFL QB. I really think the others would/will be stud NFL QB's as well, if they had coaching to design the offense around them instead of the other way around.
Richard as DC. Maybe Lee as LB coach.

And if Jerry would let McClay run the picks.........I think Dallas would be fine.
