What would you prefer?

As always I like the ball to start the second half. Main reason if you are ahead coming out of halftime you have a chance to extend the lead and if you are behind you have a chance to catch back up. Opening kick to me is not a big deal since games are normally won in the 2nd half of the game

Perhaps it was. Still a 50% shot that Philly makes the decision, though.:)

Actually no that isn't accurate.. If you are following the premise of the title thread / question : coin toss sunday, if we win it?

Followed by op first post ; which would you prefer..

Then based on that Philly has a 0% chance of making that decision unless for the first time ever our captains after winning said toss decides to say .. Nah, let Philly decide

Just saying

To answer .. I prefer to defer... Get ball first in second half to either add to a lead / or take a lead ... Or to hopefully stop the bleeding if we are behind

Normally i'd defer, but in this game I think I take the ball. Our offense is our strength and we should play to our strengths as early as possible.

Also, Philly's defense gave up 180+ yards on the ground and was on the field for 41 minutes against Seattle. I think our OL is going to come in with something to prove after last game's debacle, and a run heavy/play-action drive that eats up clock and wears down their defense to start the game is where I think we should be aiming. If we can set up a long drive and score followed by a defensive stop, it could be a very long day for Philly's D. Additionally, Sanchez is pretty anti-clutch, get him down by double digits and he's likely to feel the pressure.

I don't think there's any way I want to start the game off with our Defense on the field.

If we're assuming that our defense is going to get blasted again, then it's even more reason to defer until the second half. If we take the ball first, Garrett is much more likely to be conservative and try to play the "establish the run" and "field position" game, such as punting from the Eagles' 36-yard line. If we take the ball first in the second half instead, Garrett might understand that we actually need to score points to win, not just run the clock and punt.

Disagree. Take the ball first and hope that equates to an added series throughout the half.

Then if the offense is going well, that will have worn down that Eagles defense for the 2nd half.

Take the ball. A KO return for a TD would be nice, but as mentioned above, a long lengthy TD drive would be great too.

I am sure someone has the stats to discredit me, but it seems like this offense starts slow. I would rather play D first series rather than go 3 and out first series.

Somewhat misleading stat. Wilson had 50 yards rushing himself. Lynch only averaged aroudn 3.7 yards per carry. Philly was still fairly stingy against the run. Plus Seattle could stick with Lynch grinding out 3 yards a carry because their defense kept them in the game. Seattle was able to eventually wear them down because their defense got off the field quite a bit on short series and put their offense right back on the field. Our defense has shown no ability to get off the field, especially against good offenses.

Here's what's happened to date:

Game, receive or kick to start the game, result of our first drive, result of our first 2nd half drive
SF, receive, fumble, punt
@TEN, receive, punt, punt
@STL, kick, fumble, TD
NO, receive, TD, TD
HOU, kick, punt, punt
@SEA, kick, blocked punt, punt
NYG, receive, punt, TD
WAS, receive, punt, punt
ARI, kick, FG, punt
@JAC, receive, FG, TD
@NYG, receive, punt, punt
PHI, kick, punt, punt
@CHI, receive, punt, TD

In the eight games where we received the opening kickoff, we scored one TD, one 50+-yard FG, punted five times and fumbled once. (1.25 points/drive)
In the five games where we received the 2nd-half kickoff, we scored one TD and punted four times. (1.4 points/drive)
Our offense is pretty bad coming out of the tunnel.
Getting the ball second in a half, we've tallied four TDs, one 50+-yard FG, one fumble, one blocked punt and six other punts. (2.4 points/drive).

What about the other guys?
In the five games where we kicked off first, we've given up two TDs and one FG, forced one punt, and had a pick-6 against ARI.
In the eight games where we kicked off to start the second half, we've given up one TD and two FGs, forced 4 punts and a fumble.

Actually, we've done pretty well when we kick off in the second half: we've allowed 13 points to the opponents in 8 games, and then scored 28 points when we got the ball.
When we receive to start the second half, we've scored 7 points in 5 games, and then allowed 14 points to the opponents on their ensuing drives.

None of this means anything, but I guess I'd be perfectly happy to receive the opening kickoff.

Normally I like to defer but in this case I would take the ball and try and draw first blood can't allow Philly to get an early jump on us.

Well, then we defer to a 7 point hole to start the game. Just like last time.

And that is just too typical f this team.

Could be 14 or 17-0 before second quarter.

No thanks.

Never defer. Score, score, score.
Let them blitz..... AND HOW ABOUT WE MAKE THEM PAY! Beasley for 4-5 yards per clip!
