Kick or Receive?

I always prefer to kick.
Dak will say we want to kick. Not defer, but kick.

He did that a few years ago and the ref was like "you want to defer"... And Dak kept saying we want to kick.

He's lucky we didn't have to kick off for both halves.

It depends. How good has Tampa been on their opening possessions this year ? Do they score a lot? I'd hate to get behind the 8 ball 5 minutes into the game by giving up the 1st possession. I'm not sure what Tampa's success rate is.

I think most folks prefer to receive after the half.
But I think I read that statistically it makes no real difference.
it likely does not make a difference although the possibility of scoring and end and beg of half is always nice. I hate when we take the ball as we always seem to go 3 and out

What’s not to like about not deferring and go 3 and out on the first series? :muttley:

TB giving up 4.5/tote with that top 10 D. Cowboys need to patient with the run.

I just assumed that with Dak, they want him to charge downfield and score, to get his confidence up, rather than start off in a hole.
Yeah except how often do they actually charge downfield and score???? We should always DEFER!

It may not make a difference statistically, but receiving in the second half gives you a shot to keep your defense on the sidelines for about 40 straight real time minute during the game.

When your defense is on the field last in the first half it’s awful to have to start the second the same way.

Kick or Receive?

I always prefer to kick.
There has been at least one or two games where McCarthy chose to receive because he wanted the team to have the opportunity to draw first blood. Against San Francisco last season in the playoffs we chose to kick. I would prefer to kick, but if the defense doesn’t step up you could be playing from behind early. Our best chance to win this game is to jump on them early.

I am sure Dak and Kellen will want the ball to go out and go three and out.

We might as well get Turpin’s fumble over with early.

Actually, there's statistically very little to gain either way, as a rule. Wind is about the only factor to consider. People think there's an advantage because you might get the ball at the end of the first half and then the start of the second half, but there's no guarantee of that. Besides, if you start with the ball and also finish the half with the ball, that means you've had one more opportunity than your opponent in the first half.
Momentum doesn't carry through from the first half to the second half when there's a 12 break in between.

When I used to play an online football game back in the late 90s, I would always hope to lose the coin toss. I'm never losing at the start of the game. I might need that ball to start the second half.

If we win the toss we’re gonna choose to receive the kick under the notion of “setting the tone,” which means we go 3 and out and Dak throwing a near pick-6.

MM will choose to get the ball tonight if we win the toss. My voodoo girl told me that.
