Here is a question I would like an answer to.

Do we have the personnel to play a 3-4 defense as our base D? Either one gap or two? Seems most teams have gone to a 3-4 base defense. Would it be more effective than the 4-3? I remember the days of Ratliff at NT, Spears/Hatcher at DE, Ware and Spencer at OLB. Would Tank and Gregory/Taco be effective as OLB'ers. Would Collins/Crawford be as effective as Spears/Hatcher. I think Woods could handle the nose better than Rat with his size. We certainly have the horses at ILB'er in LVE and Jaylon. I know Seattle runs more of a 4-2-5 with 4-3 as the base

Not trying to re-invent the wheel. Just curious on your thoughts.

Actually, most team use four down linemen.

And you rarely see a 4-3 or a 3-4 because defenses are in nickel most downs anyway.

The days of true 4-3 and 3-4 defenses are done. Seems like every team uses some concepts from both from snap to snap. Half the time everyone is in nickel anyway. Also becoming more common are occasional usages of what you might call a 2-5, and then there's the teams that love to put 7 at the line and the people dropping/rushing change every play. Idk if you call that a 7-0 or a highly optional 5-2 or what. NE and CHI do a lot of that.
