Cole Beasley should be in the game every single down

-The thing is, we are not a good running team. Our theme is to throw the ball and sprinkle in some runs here and there. If we happen to have a break out running performance, then so be it. But a team is totally capable of being a pass first team, which we are. Just clean up the mistakes.

That's false. Before Murray went out, we were a decent running team and a good passing team. That's all you need to win. I understand You may not like murray getting hurt, but he was having a solid year as a running back and a receiver out of the back field.

Gotta be honest.. I never thought Beasley was a good player just OK and much too small to make an impact but I was wrong.. I think he is extremely tough and finds a way to get open and on top of that knows how to get some yards after the catch while still managing to never seem to take huge hits

I am amazed when I read this thread. In preseason Beasley was one of the most polarizing players on this forum. Pros and cons, cut or keep, "doesn't contribute on special teams", "won't be active so why keep him?", "all he does is get open and catch the ball", "Tony trusts him," " he quit". I guess it just shows that the coaches really do more than we do about players and their roles on the team.

I wanted Beasley on the roster, but I don't think there is anyway he can be an every down player. He is a chain mover that has, and will draw double teams that has, and will open up Dez and Williams to single coverage. Thanks to a vastly improved OL, this receiver corps will keep DCs awake at night.

I wish so many people wouldn't have given up on him/calling for him to be cut ever since that "quitting on the team" incident. I was always shocked at all the vile our fans had towards him after that. I've been pulling for him (partially because some of those people I just like to see be wrong), and I'm glad he seems to be getting a lot of looks in this offense now. He really does seem to always be open.

Sadly, there's no IQ test to be a fan.

There is more that can befall an offense than mistakes. Luck is a factor...tipped balls, strip-sacks, fumbles, interceptions, wrong routes, dropped balls. All these things are subject to the timing of two players who are under harrassment by pass rushers and cover defenders. An offense will not win every battle and throwing the ball 40-50 times per game just increases the normal chances of bad things happening. Particular [on the road] in a hostile venue with swirling winds and raucous fans, a team with at least an adequate running game can weather a lot of adversity and help its defense tremendously.

I was one of the guys who said he should be cut. But heed the vital current of my argument: it was that if Cole isn't one of your top 3 receivers, and he can't contribute much in special teams...then he lacks value and should be cut.

But I suspect that CB is your #3 WR here and now. With Austin's disappearance...and CB's superiority over Harris as a slot weapon....he stays. He plays.

Now comes the other part of my offseason skepticism: can he stay healthy?

15 pounds. From Cole's own mouth: Wesley is "a lot thicker."

5 lbs according to their NFL profiles.. not sure where you think its 15, but regardless of whether its 5 or 15.. it doesn't really matter that much. If you can play, you can play. Those guys who are tiny like that survive over the middle because they are shiftier than the guys trying to line them up for a big hit.. which is why you don't see defenders square them up very often.

The guy is an amazing player, and a hell of a secret weapon. There's no reason why he shouldn't get 5-10 targets a game.

Beasley, more than any other player, needs his own little e of plays. Plays highly designed to :
- be successful
- protect him from big hits

He should be led AWAY from defenders.

I got two names for him:
- Cole Beastly - for regular catches
- "The BEEZ" - for a catch and/or run that leads to TD

..which brings me to my next point:

Don't do drugs. :D

Every team would like to be able to run the ball whenever they want, and to have it be successful. It's not reality though. If you are not a good running team, should you then give up? No, you simply make your passing game efficient. Beasley was basically your Emmitt Smith yesterday. His 6 yard passes were the equivalent of a 6 yard run. And I know mistakes can be made in the passing game, as so the running game. Peyton Manning had a chance to win last night, but he handed the ball off, fumble, and there goes your game.

I'm not suggesting we ditch the run game. I'm suggesting we be what we are. And that's a passing team, that uses the run as a change of pace. And Beasley, as someone has also mentioned, should have his own design of plays to keep him out of kill-shot situations as much as possible. Use Beasley, Witten & Joseph as your short passing game, and use the other two monsters as your big play receivers. Then switch it up with the occasional runs.

This is how we're going to have to be successful to win, IMO, because we don't have a good running game. And I'm not going to run run run, just to make the analyst feel better about what we're doing.

The size issue with Beasley is overrated. DeSean Jackson is 2" taller but weighs 5 lbs less and he plays every down.
