Davon Coleman is starting ahead of Melton according to ESPN.

Melton is playing so I'm not sure it means much of anything.

Yeah. This was expected, I think. It just means we're limiting Melton's snaps to pass rush situations, at least to start.

Gotta feel good about Coleman's progress I think. To be starting the opener as an undrafted rookie is pretty good, regardless of how poor our DL might be. I think he'll be a solid contributor by next season.

So we're going with Mincey, Coleman, Bishop and Selvie? Basically the line we saw getting gutted all preseason but whom everyone here said not to worry because that's not our starting line...

That's worse than I thought it would be. Wow.

I'll tell you, I'm not as high on Bishop, and I don't really like Mincey, but Coleman really came on and got better each game of the preseason. I think he's going to be a legit player sooner rather than later. I'm interested in seeing him go against a really good player in Iupati on early downs to see how he stacks up.

Replace Bishop with Hayden and you've got it. Not that it makes any difference.

He's not much of a pass rusher having only 15.5 career sacks. He hasn't had a sack since the 2012 season. He's probably a better run defender than pass rusher. This move isn't going to help the Cowboys run defense and running the ball is what SF does best.

There's got to be some reason they're reserving his snaps for outside of the base defense. What do you suppose it is, then?

The reason has to be he's still not
ready to play. The Cowboys held him back all summer fearing a setback. They want to limit his snaps. This is what happens when you sign a player coming off an ACL.

I'd imagine it's going to take 3-5 games if not more before Melton is close to being 100%.

It can't be that.

Anybody else got anything? Positive?

Well....DUH. Of course they're limiting his snaps. That much is completely obvious. I"m asking you why you think they're not using his limited snaps in the base (starting) defense if, as you say, he's not much of a pass rusher.
