Well....DUH. Of course they're limiting his snaps. That much is completely obvious. I"m asking you why you think they're not using his limited snaps in the base (starting) defense if, as you say, he's not much of a pass rusher.

He would be out there too much in the base defense SF is going to run the ball. If you're going to limit a players snaps you assign them to one role and the best way to limit Melton's snaps would be in pass rush situations.

One other point there would be less wear and tear on Melton in pass rush situations than in the base defense.

To excited about the game right now to argue. I think the simplest explanation is that they're using him where they think he can be most effective in a limited capacity. We'll see here in a bit if that happens to be on third downs, or if they platoon him into the base.

So much for SF trying to run the ball at least on that drive.

If he was 100% he would be starting that's my point. The Cowboys are trying to work him slowly until they feel he's ready to start.

Yes. That I agree with. But that had been the story going back to Wed of this week. I think I thought everybody I had heard that, but apparently they had not.

It's been the story all summer he's been limited. I posted a couple of weeks ago I doubted he would start the opener.
