Colin Cowherd: Wade Phillips is pretty much an interim Head Coach

Regardless of your thoughts on Cowherd, some of what he said is likely true.

Recent comments by Jerry Jones indicates he probably wants Jason Garrett to be the HC in the near future.

7 points more per game is huge. That's not an insignificant improvement. Romo is more mature, TO is healthy, and Bigg is better than Rivera, but last year's team also had a healthy Terry Glenn. The reason the team is 12-1 is mainly because the offense is better.

Parcells built the team, and deserves credit for that, but did a mediocre job coaching it. Wade promised to fix the defense, but hasn't done so. The big difference is the offense, and I credit Garrett for that, as far as the coaches are concerned.

Cowherd also said that Dallas would finish 3rd in the NFCE at the start of the season.

and he just absolutely trashed Jones out back at the beginning of the yr for hiring Jason Garrett befor ehiring a HC

Garrett has done great as an OC but that is not the same as being the HC. As the OC he deals with the offensive players as HC you deal with 53 men on the team and Phillips has done that and he has respect from these players and has them playing as a team. Phillips is involved with all aspect of the team regardless of who is calling the plays.

Just in the interest of fairness, last years team scored 425 pts. This years team will end up scoring probably around one TD more per game. Its not really that much of a jump, statisitically speaking.

It's actually a huge jump, statistically speaking.

So far in 2007, the standard deviation in average points scored is 5.48.

For illustration, 7 points is the difference between Green Bay's 4th ranked offense (27.8) and Philadelphia's 18th ranked offense (20.8).

If BP really thought he could win a Super Bowl with us, he probably would have stayed on.[/quote]

My whole problem with Keyshawn claiming the success of the Cowboys is due to Parcells is this: Parcells had the same team last year, had total control, and coached them to a 9-7 record.

Phillips is doing more with the same people.

Parcells might have bought great groceries, but he burned our steaks.

Well the addition of Davis on the front line has been big, last season Dallas gave up over 30 sacks this season with the addition of Davis we have given up 18 sacks. Granted it is more than just Davis but where their was a glaring weak link in the OL last season Davis has stepped up and changed that. I love the job Wade has done and take nothing away from him. I do think BP was the right man at the right time for this franchise and I think his being here helped to make us a better team

I'm glad Wade inherited BP's players and not his philosophy.

If Bill Parcell's was here this Cowboys team would be 8-5 and battling the Giants for the division and fighting for a wildcard spot.

Instead, Wade and Garrett have this offense playing out of their minds, and the defense playing better than it ever has under BP, as far as pressuring the QB and creating turnovers.

If anything Wade and Garrett have created a whole lot of regret for Bill Parcells.

True. Wade has done an outstanding job he deserves his due for taking this team to a new level. In fairness BP took over a team that had gone 5-11 3 years in a row and brought us back to at least a playoff caliber team. I guess I don't get why there is an issue of giving BP a certain amount of credit for his time here without it somehow being looked at as a slap at Wade who is doing better than anyone expected.

BP had some philosophys which the players still use, like work ethics, and off-season work out program, which WP attributed to BP's demand from the players.

Comparing offensive stats between 06 and 07 sounds fine but we all forget one thing. How many times did the Cowboys fail to score more then 16 points against good teams? Last year we scored a lot of points against bad teams but this year we consistently score against everybody. Aikman pointed out during the game against Detroit that the Cowboy offense was held to only 24 points twice (Buffalo and the current game in progress which was Detroit). In most of our games we put up 30+ points against the Giants
(2), Packers, etc. Admittedly we only put up 27 points again NE but heck that's not bad & if Glenn healthy enough to help us if we faced NE again, I'll guarantee we put up 35-40+ points this time around.

As an aside, our offense only put up 20 on New England. They kinda let the D down on that one.

Why isn't Jerry getting any credit? He's the GM. He's the one who signed the free agents and drafted the players. If it wasn't for Jerry's devotion to the Cowboys and getting better at every possible opportunity, the Cowboys wouldn't be sitting at 12-1 right now.

Also, if anything, Ireland should get just as much credit in the draft as Parcells.

Switzer: Jason Garrett deserves the credit, he is moving the ball and has been a big factor. He has the running game going strong and Romo is playing well.

Switzer: In my opinion, Jason Garrett has had more impact on this team than anybody
</Interview>

I agree that Garrett deserves a lot of credit, however the bigger factor is that Big Bill is gone. Garrett would never be allowed to run such a wide open offense if Bill was still here. Bill controlled all aspects of the game while Wade Phillips lets Garrett and Sparano do there thing while he concentrates on defense. We would have a worse record if Bill were still here because our offense would be a ball control, playing not to lose style rather than the go for the jugular style we currently run. If Bill were still here we would also be starting the annual December meltdown. Thank God he is gone!!!!
