I do like him better than Jim Rome, but that's not saying much.

Wish this was the beginning of a house cleaning there.

I can't find a story stating Cowherd was fired today. There have been rumors for weeks he would be leaving ESPN after his contract expired.

it probably is. a lot of their top reporters have left. ESPN subscriptions and viewership has dropped. what they have left is a bunch of TMZ type reporters focused on the non sports related aspects of things.

That would be great. The thing is that it is not just the talking heads themselves that is the issue. The beliefs of BSPN goes to the very top. In order for the station to be watchable, I think the house doesn't so much need to be cleaned, but demolished and rebuilt.

Was about time. Never understood the fascination at all. Ditto with Jim Rome.

Sounds to me like Cowherd is the one who made the decision to leave. Looks like he's got a huge offer from Fox Sports on the table.

Colin Cowherd is leaving ESPN Radio

One of ESPN's biggest voices is leaving the network.
Colin Cowherd, host of "The Herd" on ESPN Radio, is leaving the network, ESPN announced on Thursday.

"We've enjoyed a mutually beneficial run with Colin for over a decade. He came to national prominence on ESPN with his unique perspective on sports and society," ESPN President John Skipper said in a statement.

"Endings also bring new beginnings, for ESPN and Colin, and we thank him and wish him the best," Skipper said.

A person with knowledge of the negotiations said ESPN "bid aggressively" to keep Cowherd -- a notable point because the network is looking to cost cuts where possible.

Cowherd, 51, joined ESPN Radio in 2004 and was the host of the nationally syndicated "The Herd" on ESPN Radio which ran from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. during the week.

Colin Cowherd Latest Personality to Exit ESPN
by Marisa Guthrie
7/16/2015

Jumping to Fox Sports, Cowherd follows Bill Simmons and Keith Olbermann out the door.

Colin Cowherd is the next high-profile sports personality to leave ESPN. The host of the popular ESPN Radio program The Herd With Colin Cowherd will exit before the conclusion of his contract for a job at Fox Sports. ESPN made an aggressive bid to keep Cowherd, sources say. But ultimately lost out to Fox Sports, which has been on a spending spree since the launch of its cable networks two years ago. The deal with Fox Sports has not been finalized, but sources say Cowherd is likely to have a daily TV show and also appear on Fox Sports' Sunday NFL program.

"We’ve enjoyed a mutually beneficial run with Colin for over a decade. He came to national prominence on ESPN with his unique perspective on sports and society. Endings also bring new beginnings, for ESPN and Colin, and we thank him and wish him the best,” ESPN president John Skipper said in a statement.

Cowherd has been at ESPN Radio since 2003, when he was tapped to replace Tony Kornheiser in the prime morning slot. His show also is simulcast on ESPNU. A former host of ESPN'sSportsNation, Cowherd, 51, is another among ESPN's outspoken personalities — he recently picked a fight with former ESPN personality Dan Patrick — and a frequent target of ********.

Cowherd follows Bill Simmons and Keith Olbermann out the door at ESPN. On his radio program, Cowherd lamented the loss of Simmons. “I will miss him professionally, but envy him to some degree as well," said Cowherd, explaining that Simmons is likely to find more "creative freedom" away from ESPN.

I don't mind Cowherd or Rome. They are what they are. I've enjoyed some of their takes, and interviews over the years and I've hated some of the things they say and do. I don't have a problem with either of them though.

Personally I like Rome better.

I hope this signals a change in ESPN, rather then their downfall. Sports landscape would be a wreck if ESPN fell of the map.
