Collins almost chose Miami

I found that interesting.

Yes it was. If Miami was only offering OG also, that made the decision for Collins a lot easier. Their OTs are nothing to brag about and definitely not enough to keep them from offering it to Collins. Bad move by Miami.

High priced FA LT and a 1st round pick at RT

That high priced LT got overpaid and I saw plenty of Dolphins beat writers suggesting he will be cut next season when the dead money hit won't be so large. I forgot about James honestly. He seemed to do a good job at LT when Albert went down. Not being willing/able to offer a starting OT position made it a lot more realistic to choose Dallas.

Playing between Smith and Frederick had to be an appealing option as well.

No, I think this is a valid article, and speaks to the process of a pretty historic signing. Breaking down how the Cowboys got him and what they were up against should give you appreciation for the front office and the type of players that we have that were here to persuade him to sign with us against Miami.
It also creates a buzz and helps sports media in Miami.

I remember we lost Asomugha to the Eagles and while it didn't pan out for him in Philly, he probably would have been in asset in our system. I really wondered why he went to philly instead of playing for Ryan again. He never fit the Eagles zone scheme. It seemed like such a bone headed mistake.

Also interested in how we got Romo instead of Denver.

These are very interesting stories, that we can look back to in the years to come.

Well stated. This is the behind-the-scenes stuff that many fans enjoy. Personally, this article really made me smile because my best friend is a huge Dolphins fan. :muttley: He sent me a text after he heard about the Collins signing - he was totally distraught. He couldn't understand why Collins would choose Dallas over Miami. He said "they must have promised him a tackle job". No, just a chance to play for America's Team and to be a part of a truly great OL. I'm STILL on a high after the Jones, Gregory, Collins trifecta! What a haul!

True but who doesn't?

Especially a high caliber kid like this

All 32 teams needed La'el Collins. I agree. He's that damn good.

He said he was contacted by 29 teams. I'd like to know the 3 that didn't even try. I'd be pissed if I was a fan of one of those teams. You have a blue chip top 15 player in this class (9th on my board) available at an UDFA salary and you don't even attempt to make that happen? Inexcusable.

I suppose we should thank the Baton Rouge Police Department for screwing over Collins and making this possible. If they could have waited a few days, he goes 9th overall to the Giants.

Ehhh I don't really wanna say thanks to the police department because they ruined this young man's life. Makes me feel like a dirt bag. Although I am ecstatic that we got him. Just hope we give him a big contract the 2nd time to make up for that.

When the story is picked up nationally, it will help the buzz in Dallas, and help shift the narrative on our team. I can see this being a great NFL Films segment in 20 years.

How tough of a choice could it be? Play on an elite line, blocking for an elite QB, on arguably the most glamorous team in American sports...or play for the Dolphins... lol

You were telling the poster why you think the story is important to us, and I was adding why I think it was important to the guy who wrote it.
