The press conference was touching but I think he would've been just as emotional had he chosen Miami or Oakland for that matter. And that's fine. Credit goes to Jerry and I'm sure some promises made by the team to close the deal. You don't make proclamations about being "the best OL in league history" cheering from the bench.

As much as I haven't been a fan of Jerry being the GM, although the last few years Jerry seems to be listening to the people he's hired and learned to take NO for an answer, instead of listening to those outside the organization when it comes to player selections even though Jerry can't help himself at times wanting to move around in drafts to select questionable players, but the man could sell water to a drowning man, hence why I call him a snake oil salesman, and once a player lands in Dallas, it's over, Jerry will sign him and every other team knows it

Ehhh I don't really wanna say thanks to the police department because they ruined this young man's life. Makes me feel like a dirt bag. Although I am ecstatic that we got him. Just hope we give him a big contract the 2nd time to make up for that.

good grief. They did not RUIN his life. They kicked him in the balls but he got up and kept on going. That kid that got falsely accused of rape and spent years in prison till the little ****** admitted she lied - HIS life was ruined.

In his press conference, didn't he say he wanted to win a superbowl? So, if he actually considered Miami or Oakland, what does that say about his decision making?

All 32 teams needed La'el Collins. I agree. He's that damn good.

He said he was contacted by 29 teams. I'd like to know the 3 that didn't even try. I'd be pissed if I was a fan of one of those teams. You have a blue chip top 15 player in this class (9th on my board) available at an UDFA salary and you don't even attempt to make that happen? Inexcusable.

I bet one of them was the Patriots. No way after the Aaron Hernandez stuff.

Interesting that Miami came so close to signing La'el before he visited with Jerry and some of our players. He obviously felt gratified that he was so vigorously accepted by those hosting him and it apparently won his desire to sign with Dallas. Jerry has always had a knack for befriending those he wishes to align himself with. Thank goodness La'el chose as he did -- it was exactly the break the Cowboys needed to make their offseason a blessing as well as an unquestionable success.

It also doesn't hurt that the owner invites you to his home for a personal dinner. That's HUGE because to open your house to someone means you're letting them into your life.

Rex Ryan didn't do that.

For any of us feeling hurt that La'el came close to signing with the Dolphins, let's just realize that Miami did everything in its power to get La'el to sign, just like we did. We were probably extremely fortunate that we got the jump hosting him as we did. Sometimes, it's just a matter of timing and little else that makes the difference between winning someone over before they can get attached elsewhere to others. Let's just consider ourselves extremely fortunate rather than jealous over his attraction to them. We'll have La'el all to ourselves for many, many years to come. In the end, isn't that all that really counts? We just might end up with the OL of the century. I'll bet we do.

I suppose we should thank the Baton Rouge Police Department for screwing over Collins and making this possible. If they could have waited a few days, he goes 9th overall to the Giants.

That's one of the things that hit me as well. What teams wouldn't go after Collins after it was determined he wouldn't be charged? We have one of the top OLs in the league and went out and got him. I'm not sure there is any excuse for a team with a lesser line not at least inquiring about him.
