Collins RT or LG?

Definitely but I'd also like to see Zack Martin get reps at LT in the summer. Do it like they did Larry Allen back in the day. Get him ready to play there as much as you can should Tyron go down for a length of time and you don't have a backup OT who can play there at a reasonable level and it has to be a pretty good level considering it's the QB's blindside.

Probably not a popular opinion but I think Martin can be a solid LT in a pinch. Certainly better than the crap we saw there this year when Tyron couldn't play. I also think he's such a stellar OG and has enough experience there that he can afford to miss some time there during the summer. I don't think he needs the reps.

I actually agree. Would still draft a guy, but I would have him play some LT in training camp.

Now I need to go throw up

He was better at LG but Garrett loves fixing what's not broken...soon he'll be at C

he wasnt. At all. Didn't anchor well & created poor lanes for RB. There was reason Dallas running game looked noticeably better when Leary became starter. I think Collins needs to tweek his training program and loose some up-body weight. This will help his feet. I thought his hand placement got better as season went on. His tenacity will carry him thru his career. Least of my worries.

I can't get past the notion that those who are close to a situation, whatever the situation may be, will have a tendency to spin a brighter scenario than may be the reality.

Or the actual reality is different than what you want the reality to be.

Lael was so good at LG he was replaced for the year by a guy the team let go in free agency without a second thought.
I don't know...

Leary wasn't drafted because has a degenerative knee condition that most doctors said he would have only 5-6 year career in the NFL and then his knee would stop him from playing. They said it wouldn't be a gradual thing but like a switch being flipped and the Cowboys chose not to resign him after his 4th season when his contract expired because of the knee issue. He signed with denver but had the Cowboys resigned him Collins would have still been moved to RT after Free retired because he wouldn't have been able to beat out Leary at LG. Now Collins is the better LG on the Cowboys since Leary left and they should move him back there and find another RT.

There is a reason why Larry Allen played 3 different positions in the 1900's. Obviously not all 3 could be his "best position", but he had the ability to succeed at multiple positions, so he moved to whichever position would make the overall O-Line the strongest. I'm not saying Collins is Larry Allen's level, but he is versatile, and he his versatility can be beneficial the way it was with Allen. Bottom line for me is you do things in the way that best solidifies the entire O-Line. Creating a huge weak link in order to play Collins in a particular spot would be counter productive.

Collins isn't even in the same continent as Allen. Collins isn't even as good as Allen's worse year and I don't even know when that was.

Thinking about the offense tonight and it all starts up front with the o-line so this should be a big priority this off-season.

While I think the organization will leave LC at RT I'm curious as to what you guys think.

I think they like him there and are content with what he brings. Plus I think they will look to reward him for his efforts in playing injured and they don't want to move him around again. I think he definitely improved as the season went on and I think he will get better.

I'm thinking he has a higher ceiling at LG than he does at RT and I think in a big picture view I just like him better at G depending of course on if we can find a capable RT. I think he can be good there but I think the best 5 we can run out there would have him at LG.

But if you move him back to G then you need to find 2 guys to play RT. One a starter and the other a swing tackle. From what we saw last year I don't know that they can accomplish that.

actually think he is better at rt.
then u add how much harder it is to get an ot.
nobrainer to me.

Collins Physical Dimensions are more suited to play Guard...if the Cowboys find a good RT.

totally agree. i would use a 1st on a LT if a good one was available. cannot trust smith anymore unfortunately

I wouldn't throw he towel in on Smith. He is too good a player and too young to not stick with.

The Cowboys need to focus on closing the talent gap between Smith and his back up. It looked like they had that solved with Green in 2016, but that line shuffle with Collins and Co. doesn't look like the best moves they cold have made.

i recall smith was not looking the same even early in the season.
some say surgery may fix a disc issue.
many say back issues dont get better.
he had many more penalties last season and was far less dominant.
unfortunately, we may be seeing a case where an ol not having a longevity.

things were not great when smith was there.
and a disaster after he was out.
it needs to get fixed.

I watched a couple of games of LA's last season at SF and he was not good. He could barely move anymore. Frankly he was worse then Collins was at the end of this season easily.

I'm not sure who you're referring to that you watched last season but Larry Allen retired after the 2007 season and that's who I was referring to. Allen's years in Dallas and Collins isn't even good enough to say Allen's name of the Allen when he played for Dallas.

RT. He can do both at a high level but you keep him at RT because it's much easier to find a quality OG to fill out the line. It takes less athleticism inside.

Now if the Cowboys find great value in the draft in a RT prospect that changes things. A player like Collins gives you that flexibility.

It scares me how easily speed guys got around him like they did Green. He also starts kicking back a hair before the snap to compensate on every pass play.

I say move him back to LG and grab a RT.

He held Von Miller witout a sack for 3 quarters of that game. Miller jumped offsides about 5 times trying to get around him. Finally in the 4th quarter when they had to pass on all snaps, Miller managed to beat him.

you lack reading comprehension. I said I watched two games of Larry Allen's LAST SEASON with SF. Not my problem you are dense
