Like the Cowboys doing their diligence on this kid as he fell in the draft, he's a top 15 pick and I always thought he is going to be an all pro type left guard for this team for years to come, he just has that nastiness to him and ability to get to that second level that you want in a guard...

when this board called it on Byron Jones, Lael Colins and Gregory, dead on. No "meh" players in those guys

Biggest concern is paying the next 3 out of 4 outstanding linemen we have. Tyron's locked up, will the rest do similar deals?

That might be a reason we seem hesitant to move Martin or Collins out to RT. They will be cheaper as guards in the long run.

Not if you're Steve Hutchinson or Larry Allen caliber.

Collins is better than Martin already.

Also, the Romo window is closing, so if they can find a replacement in the next 2-3 years in the draft (not a given, seeing how many busts there are) that'll free up $ just at about the right time to pay the lineman.
Cap is rising too.

I wonder if we'll be able to pay both Frederick and Martin.

Folks...you have to PAY for All Pro talent. I said it in another thread....when your coaches have no imagination....and you ask your players to BETTER than the man in front of you....you have put the onus on the PLAYERS. If anything....we keep talking about ANYBODY should be able run behind this OL....but they way we like talk up our talent...anybody should be able to COACH this team! Look at the Pats OL and how they are not skipping a beat...COACHING matters...of course Brady is an all time great....but Kraft is getting tremendous return on investment from his COACHES!

So if we DON'T want to pay our ALL Pro talent on the OL...then develop a scheme that allows your players to be effective without the particular player needing to be ALL Pro. But as long as we remain vanilla and ask our guys to be better....and then they prove to be better....and play at an ALL Pro level...you are going to have to pay up!

You would think our EXPERIENCED GM...would notice how badly our coaches from the 90s did when they left Dallas. Or how the team went to the NFC championship game and won a Super Bowl in spite of losing head coaches, offensive coordinators, defensive coordinators. Our approach to offense and defense does not require a big time X and O type...it requires a motivator and a disciplinarian. Our coaches did not look so great without Troy, Irvin, Emmit, Larry Allen, Erik Williams, Charles Haley, Leon Lett, Darren Woodson, Mark Stepnoski, Jay Novacek., etc.....

Collins is better than Martin already.

Ummmm...no.

Not at this juncture.

Collins still has work to do with understanding stunts and reading blitz pickups. Martin is much better in pass protection all together.

And Martin's technique is far better in run blocking. Collins is still learning the hand placement and the counters to defending players' moves. Martin is far more skilled in that level.

Where Collins has Martin is in athleticism. Martin is very athletic as a guard. There was one play I watched Martin pull left, block this guy, go to the second level and pirouette to shove another defender out of the way and then block another defender. Incredibly hard to do that for a guy of that size and even more difficult to make it look as easy as Martin did.

But, Collins has this incredible explosion and foot speed and he turns his speed into power. He also plays with an incredibly nasty streak like he's angry at the fact that somebody would dare line up across from him.

Now if we could just get away from asking Frederick to block guys that are way out of his position because our playcalling is so stupid at times....that interior O-Line is going to kill people if they stay healthy and progress like they should.
