Colombo

I think peeps are being too hard on Colombo.

You have to take into account, that a couple of those sacks were because Tony held on too long and receivers were not open.

You cant pin those on Colombo.

Definitely looked like the Minny game all over again out there.

Unfortunately, there's no backup plan. I have no faith in Barron and Brewster, and though Young's looked good, it's been against second and third teamers
No backup plan? that is why Baron is here. he's the backup plan. now we had other options this offseason. we could have gotton Jamal Brown in here. but Jerry did it on the cheap again.this O-Line is killing us.

I thought Romo held the ball too long last night. That being said, when you have 4 sacks in 20 snaps the o-line has to take some heat.

The o-line is the key to the season. Nothing has changed since the Minny game was over, the draft was completed, or training camp started. The o-line will make or break this team.

Its an old line, with virtually no proven commodities in the backup slots. You have to hope for the best.

The only issue with moving Brewster is his utter inability to anchor. It's not surprising that his upper body strength is suspect due to the torn pec, but he doesn't appear to have any lower body strength either. He needs a lot of work.

Young has looked far better than I believed he would play. His hand placement has been very good. I would worry about him lining up against someone with speed or good lateral quickness.

The move of Brewster to the left was done similarly to increased use of the 'rook' FB and McQuistan as a 'tight end'...they need better indicators on tendencies for positional hole plugging. I like Brewster inside better and Young at right tackle. When Barron is back practicing and Holland shows up at pratice again, someone better get Kyle Kosier some center reps. Or has there actually been a Phil Costa or Travis Bright sighting yet?

Maybe we should think about giving Barron some RT reps and not just LT in preseason cause honestly, if Colombo is what we saw last night then even Barron as bad as he is would be better out there

The Cowboys better start heating up the RT bullpen. There is no excuse for Colombo to be on the ground while his guy sacks and hits Romo. I didn't see anyone else up front on the ground. That was just one of the sacks that he gave up.

It is going to be interesting to see if Barron is going to start seeing reps at RT.

If Colombo keeps playing like that, he's going to get benched, imo.

Just look at the pass rushers that he is going to have to face this year.

I have no confidence in Colombo. From now, on I trust only my eyes when it comes to him. I don't want to hear about the "sunshine", anymore, when it comes to him.

I agree with the spirit of your points but the sacks weren't solely Colombo's fault. Romo held the ball like a rookie and against the Raider's secondary, we did not spring anyone with the basic 2 and 3 man routes.

And they were overly concerned with all of the tight ends running around as well. Jason Witten got his one token catch, but even the running game didn't present a flexible challenge for pass/run.

I'm about to watch the game again on NFL Network. It's on at 3:30PM EDT. Romo held the ball too long last night at times. I'll watch the OL carefully. I do think Barron can play RT. But I also think Colombo will have to play very poorly to be replaced and that's a problem with this coaching staff IMO.

IMO, I think most coaches are that way, especially veteran coaches. However, since football is such a physical sport, he will get his chance but he has to take advantage when it comes.

Maybe. Maybe not. Colombo is really the leader on that line. He's the guy who brings fire. Unfortunately, he's really the only one who plays with an attitude and there is a great deal to be said for having a leader out there. One thing I know for sure is that even if Barron can play at a solid level, he certainly doesn't bring the lunch pail attitude with him.

The rest of the line? As in Pro Bowlers Gurode and Davis? If everyone other than Kosier is a problem, this will be a short year.

I agree Kosier got beat some last night too. He'll never be better than mediocre imo.

It is a little of a concern. He wasnt as bad as he was vs Minnesota, but he clearly didnt play well.

they all looked almost a step slow to me, maybe the quick turnaround got them out of rhythm or something. let's see what they do after a couple extra days off.

If he ain't performing then no one will follow him. Having an attitude and being fiery doesn't cut it if you are not producing. I hope he turns it around though, it is in our best interest that he does.

Offensive line was my biggest question mark this offseason and it appears I was correct. Colombo is the reason why Dallas struggled in the Minnesota game.

I got an idea, instead of drafting a LB every other pick maybe we take a linemen on the first day.

Just kidding.

The issue is whether his production plus leadership is more than you get from say, Barron, who might play a little better but bring zero leadership.

And I don't know that he really has anything to "turn around" - he's a vet coming off an injury. He gave up some coverage sacks last night.

Who was disputing that Colombo struggled in the Minnesota game? Flo's injury was our downfall which put us in a spot of unable to sub for a shaky Colombo and playing Free in position without any preparation.

I think you're right but I think ours are overly protective. I've played under both kinds. The quick pullers and the not so quick.

I'm a Colombo fan. But if he has lost a half step then I'd rather see Barron in there. In fact I think Barron the better player but I could easily be wrong here. Barron has played the right side before. Whatever they do, I hope they play the better player.
