stats don't always tell the whole story.

With a rational mind, I don't know who you could say was better or really close....at least if you've seen Quinn play.
Brohm maybe?

but let's entertain your theory, McCoy is as good or a better QB than Quinn...puuulease. Its a ridiculous premise and not worth debating when the truth is so obvious.

I'm sure NFL scouts would disagree with what you're implying, and it has nothing to do with the ND hype machine.

There are a good number of college QBs right now that are better than McCoy....Quinn, Brohm, Leak, Ainge, Booty, Troy Smith...and those are the ones that immediately come to mind. McCoy is an outstanding QB no doubt but give me a break, the Big 12 is god-awful this year. It's also important to remember that McCoy is surrounded with far more talent than 95% of the teams out there.

To imply that McCoy is the best QB is the country is flat out silly. Kinda like a Skins fan saying Washington is a legit contender for the SB this year. Not hardly worth arguing with them.

I'm glad you're not running our scouting dept.
I'm done here.

I dont even like Texas, infact I wanted USC to beat them in the championship game.

What about McCoy as a freshman doesnt qualify him for the Heisman? Have you seen Quinns stats as a frosh? What does Quinn have that McCoy doesnt beside NBC putting out massive amounts of Irish propaganda every Saturday?

Freshman don't win the Heisman otherwise Adrian Peterson would already have one on his mantle. Right or Wrong thats how the vote usually turns out. Its a career reward sometimes more than anything.

I realize Hawaii's offense is wide open and that takes away from the numbers a QB puts up there and doesn't necessarily make them good prospects at the next level (ala Timmy Chang), but there's another Colt (Brennan) that's putting up just RIDICULOUS numbers for the Warriors.

Just sayin'

all i got to say about the big 12 "being the worst conference in football" is how come then the worst team in the conference, colorado, almost beat one of the better SEC, georgia, in their own house!!! i mean, the SEC is SOOO AMAZING!! they could beat NFL teams right?!?! oh, and arkansas is still in first place in the conference, yes, the same arkansas that got SMOKED by USC

wait wait. who said georgia is one of the better sec teams? :lmao2:

arkansas got smoked in the first game of the season. Cal got smoked in the first game of the season by Tennessee. Those things can happen in the first game. The only reason Arkansas is first place in the conference is that it's tough to go undefeated in the SEC with everyone beating up each other. They did have an impressive win over Auburn, but we'll see how they do after they play Tenn and LSU

Is anybody else impressed with how well Colt McCoy, UT's freshman QB is playing? This kid is impressive!!!

If he knocks too many more stud 250 pound defenders on their butts blocking on reverses, I could get to like the kid... Victor DeGrate never knew what hit him... :D

I personally don't think McCoy will, or should, win the Heisman this year, but I surely do think he should be a finalist... 2 more TD passes (with 3 games to go), and he sets an NCAA freshman record for most TD passes in a season...

Call me a homer, but Colt Brennon is a gazillion times better than Timmy Chang. He's much more accurate, will scramble if need, and has great pocket presence and escapability. He seems so calm on the field and plays with so much poise, I think he would do well on Sundays. As Parcells says, the kid has some "big cajones" and seems pretty un flappable.

PS- Please don't ever compare Brennon to Chang again. Chang was a INT waiting to happen and a big panty when pressured. Check the INT's and the completion precentage to see the real difference. Brennon 39TD-6int this year. Chang set the NCAA all time int record. Nuff said.

I wasn't taking anything away from Brennon nor was I comparing him to Chang. I was merely pointing out that stats don't tell the entire picture. Brennon easily has the best stats in the country, but is he better than Brady Quinn? I wouldn't say so. Just like Colt has really nice stats, but I wouldn't say he's better than Quinn.

I think it was Hail Mary that brought the 2 of them together. I don't think Brennon is better than Quinn, but he has some pedigree. He was, after all, Matt Leinarts back up(one year younger) in High School at Mater Dei.

I did bring up Chang, but wasn't really comparing Colt to Timmy.

I guess the point I was trying to make was that their numbers are the product of June Jones' offense and that we shouldn't be mislead into thinking they'd be able to transition to the next level. Spurrier is a good example, how he's failed w/ the Commanders, how his QB's never amounted to anything much at the next level. Same goes for Urban Myer QBs. Ty Detmer, etc....

I do like Brennon's chances a lot more than Chang's however. I haven't seen Brennon play, but he seems bigger and stronger than the noodle armed Chang. And his TD to int ration is just insane.

A bigger Longhorn fan you won't find, but in my opinion Colt is no better than Ken Dorsey or Timmy Chang. They may put up very good numbers, and win a lot of games, but they're very limited. Deffinatly not huge pro prospects.

Everyday I hope that Jevan doesn't transfer. He's taller, stronger, faster, more athletic, more talented, and a better fit for the offense. Greg Davis has to almost scrap the Zone-read because Colt almost never keeps it. He's just not the threat the Jevan is or Vince was. I think once Jevan has a year in the system to learn the offense and learn how to translate his game to college, his game and talents will pass Colt by.

If you look at the stats Texas is racking up rediculous YAC averages. If colt throws it three yards and the WR takes it 60, did Colt really have a good throw, or did the WR make a great play? I think Colt's like Dorsey in that he needs to have good WRs that can make plays, and a good running game that can take pressure off him.

I think Jevan in the next few years if allowed to develop can carry this team and take it beyond what Colt's capable of.

I agree with you about Colt's pro prospects. I am on record in hoping that Snead holds off on his transfer until after signing day so that Texas either has Snead, Brantley, or both on the roster. If Feb. rolls around and Texas has neither...then we are in trouble.

We got Jevan by default because Florida turned him off and it looked more and more like VY would leave Texas early. Jevan came here for playing time and he is not getting it. Brantley was blown away by Austin and immediately committed...he even wants to shirt, which is the best thing for Texas right now with Colt getting better and better.

They also have targeted Chiles as a QB/WR and are shirting Harris right now.

I did not think Colt could take Texas to a MNC, but he has them on the verge of backing into one and he gets better and better. I think he can do some great things in the future for the Longhorns because he is playing almost flawless football right now.

Chiles is most likely going to be moved to WR, tho he said he's working really hard this year to improve as a passer. From what I saw of Harris he looks pretty good, but I think the QB position is a little crowded. If Snead transfers I think they keep him at QB, but he may change positions. Although he's not overly fast.

I just hope Jevan gives it one more year. I think like the Applewhite/Simms situation where Mack put the team in the hands of the more skilled QB, he may do it again. I think Jevan may win the job next year if he improves and starts playing up to his talent. I think Colt's overachieving right now becaue of the people around him, but he may fall back a little bit with a rebuilt OLine next year.

If Colt plays like this next year, then I'll be ok with Jevan transfering and accept Colt as the future at QB here.
