YET ANOTHER HARRISON INCIDENT
Posted by Mike Florio on May 2, 2008, 5:41 p.m.
Maybe we haven’t been paying close enough attention to Marvin Harrison over the years.

Because this week’s shooting potentially involving Harrison wasn’t his first incident. Or his second.

It’s his third.

Granted, the five-year-old incident involving Harrison is a far cry from a shooting. But it’s further evidence that maybe Marvin isn’t the great guy that we’ve been led to believe he is.

In 2003, Harrison allegedly knocked a Jets’ ball boy to the ground because Jets punter Matt Turk was kicking balls in the direction of Harrison and quarterback Peyton Manning prior to a game.

Jets radio analyst Marty Lyons reported at the time that Harrison also put his hands on the boy’s neck before the two were separated.

The Jets confirmed that there was an incident, and the league said it was aware of it. But that was the end of it.

NOT THE FIRST PROBLEM FOR MARVIN
Posted by Mike Florio on May 2, 2008, 5:18 p.m.
We’ve been reminded in the wake of the news that Colts receiver Marvin Harrison is under investigation for firing seven shots outside his North Philly bar earlier this week that Harrison previously has been the target of allegations reflecting behavior far different from what his image would suggest.

Three years ago, Harrison was sued for “violently and physically attack[ing]” three boys who were seeking his autograph a day before the Pro Bowl in Hawaii.

Harrison allegedly put one of the boys in a choke hold.

There were never any further reports about the lawsuit, which suggests to us that it was quietly settled for a confidential payment.

HARRISON INVESTIGATED IN SHOOTING
Posted by Mike Florio on May 2, 2008, 4:31 p.m.
Who’s the last guy in the NFL that you think would be involved in a shooting? Take a minute to write down a name. (And ignore the title to this article in doing so.)

If you wrote down “Marvin Harrison” (and more than a few of you undoubtedly did . . . especially if you weren’t able to ignore the title to this article), then you win.

The Italian leg lamp will be arriving tonight.

Harrison, per our friends (except one of them) at WIP radio in Philly, is being investigated for his role in a shooting that occurred Tuesday night outside his North Philadelphia bar.

Harrison was involved in an argument with the victim at the ironically-named “Playmakers” bar. As the victim left and was walking to his car, Harrison was following. Shots rang out, and the victim was struck in the hand. A young girl was struck by broken glass from a car that had been struck by a bullet.

Ballistic tests showed that the bullets came from a custom-made Belgian gun. Harrison owns one of the guns in question.

Questioned about it at a Philadelphia car wash that he owns, Harrison admitted that he owns such a gun, but that it has never left his home.

Later, the gun was found in a bucket at the car wash. Tests revealed that the gun was the same gun involved in the shooting, and that seven bullets were fired at the time.

Folks, Marvin is innocent until proven guilty. But unless there’s an autistic cousin (or a dog with a thumb) on whom this thing can be pinned, Harrison’s quest for Jerry Rice’s all-time records might be derailed by something other than bad knees.

Maybe we haven't because he hasn't given us reason to.

I don't know why this is such a hard concept for people to understand.

Those who make more noise are going to draw more attention - good or bad.

Those who make less noise are going to draw less attention to themselves - good or bad.

Sheesh.

You'd think people don't understand human dynamics and human relationships.

Not looking good right now for Harrison - shooting someone is pretty much automatic jail if he is found guilty. My guess is he will be suspended by the league until investigation is complete.

Not if he has ...

1.) a permit for the gun, and
2.) believes he was in danger for his life.

Remember, this is a gun culture, and people are allowed to carry weapons for self-defense purposes.

Based on the initial description of events it doesn't look good for him. It also soiunds like he was trying to cover it up by throwing the gun away.

If this truly were self-defece, the first step after the shooting would be to call the police after the incident which he definitely didn't do.

The information we are getting doesn't look good. However, it is third hand information. It is important to get all the facts before making judgments.

Report: Harrison investigated in shooting outside bar

Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Marvin Harrison is under investigation in his hometown of Philadelphia in a shooting that took place earlier this week, a source close to the investigation told Anthony Gargano of Philadelphia's WIP Radio.

Harrison was interviewed by police about the shooting near his North Philadelphia bar this week.

Lt. Frank Vanore said the investigation of Tuesday's shooting was continuing. Harrison has not been arrested or charged.

"He was interviewed," Vanore said Friday. "Why he was interviewed, that is all part of the investigation. No one is a suspect."

After the first day of their rookie minicamp, Colts coach Tony Dungy said he knew little more than had been reported.

"My phone has been ringing, too, but I don't have any details," Dungy said. "I really don't have any more information than you do."

Calls by ESPN to Harrison and his agent have not been returned. NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said the league was "aware of the report, and we are looking into it."

The source said the alleged victim came into the bar, Playmakers, around 5 p.m. and engaged in an argument with Harrison, who was at the bar. The victim then left the bar, heading to his car, with Harrison following. Gunfire broke out, the victim was hit in the hand, and a young girl was slightly injured by flying glass from a car that apparently was hit by a bullet.

Police came to scene, but the victim did not identify a shooter. On Wednesday, according to the source, ballistic tests showed that the gun that had fired the shots was a custom-made Belgian weapon, and police determined that Harrison owned such a gun. A source told ESPN.com's John Clayton that the gun is registered.

Police then went to a Philadelphia car wash owned by Harrison to question him about the gun. Harrison admitted owning such a weapon, but claimed it never left his suburban Philadelphia home.

However, the source said the gun was discovered in a bucket at the car wash, and tests showed that it had fired seven bullets that matched those found at the scene.

The source said police were contacted Friday by an attorney representing a second alleged victim in the shooting, and police are now waiting for that individual to come forward.

Harrison, a prep football star at Philadelphia's Roman Catholic High, has owned Playmakers since July 2004, according to state records.

Harrison has played his entire 12-season career with the Colts and is the franchise's record-holder in every major receiving category -- receptions (1,042), yards (13,944), touchdowns (123) and 100-yard games (59). The 35-year-old is one of only four players in league history to top 1,000 receptions.

But after eight consecutive Pro Bowl appearances, last season was the most frustrating of Harrison's career.

He injured his left knee against Denver on Sept. 30, finished with 20 receptions for 247 yards and one TD and missed all but five games.

Team president Bill Polian said in February that Harrison was recovering from offseason arthroscopic surgery on his right knee and had been rehabilitating the inflamed capsule in his left knee. He was not expected to be completely healthy for the start of the Colts training camp July 24.

The typically quiet Harrison has a reputation for being humble on and off the field.

But he's still one of the Colts' most visible players -- and their longest tenured veteran. Harrison, along with Peyton Manning and Edgerrin James, were nicknamed Indy's triplets in the late 1990s. He was a first-round draft pick in 1996 out of Syracuse and wound up the best receiver in a class that included Keyshawn Johnson and Eric Moulds.

Off the field, Harrison was sued following the 2005 Pro Bowl when three boys accused him of attacking them when they tried to get his autograph. The suit alleged Harrison "violently and physically attacked" the minors, including placing a "potentially deadly choke hold" on one of the boys, but it was later dismissed.

No it wasn't a letter telling him to give the Cowboys a call after his 25 year bit but rather a thank you card... Yes a thank you card. For taking the heat off of Pacman.

I am not going to pre-judge Harrison, but what I do find amusing is when other team's fans knock the Cowboys for their cast of characters.

The bottom line is there are bad seeds on every team, some just happen to get caught and others just happen to be more publicized.

I would be willing to bet there is a TO on every single team and probably more than one at that.

So I am not judging Harrison until the facts are known, but to pretend that there are not bad seeds on every team is a bit naive.

i think he would be good here anyoneelse?

Well there are the small matters of his gigantic contract and his possible prison term.

Remember the uproar when Sean Taylor was accused of pulling out his gun in Florida a couple years ago?

Professional football player Marvin Harrison, who was coached by former Dallas Cowboys assistant Paul Pasqualoni in college, was is being questioned in a shooting in Philadelphia today. The incident occurred at a bar called "Playmakers," the nickname of Dallas Cowboys star Michael Irvin. Roger Goodell may penalize the Cowboys under the new personal conduct policy. Harrison is expected to comment on the Michael Irvin radio show this weekend.

I think what everyone is missing here is the fact that Harrison owns a bar and a car wash. Does he own a check cashing joint, a pawn shop and a liquor/gun store also?
