Columbo out 2-4 weeks

Blessing in disguise.

Foces us to evaluate the young guys earlier.

I'd love to see Sam Young take that job.

Thats exactly what I was thinking. Get a good look at Sam Young. Get an idea if Barron can play over there. If not and Barron is only on the left side then in short run you stick Barron on the LT and Free at RT.

Everbody says we need depth but even if BArron is not top flight we still have depth. Can't have a Pro Bowl backup - just not possible.

We decided not to upgrade the O-line this offseason even after the poor performance against the Vikings. We better hope one of these cast offs can prove they are players or Romo will have a very long season.

It's generally the old heads in the Army that are able to run the young guys into the ground...

...but it's only running :) I guarantee in athletic competition those old guys would peter out faster than the younger guys...I see it quite often in basketball and football games at PT, actually.

But yes - conditioning-wise I'm sure Colombo is in as good of shape as anyone else in the league. I'm also a little concerned about his lower body structurally, however.

Part II, continued.....

To underestimate an enemy is to put your whole operation in jeopardy. Same thing with a label of 'older.' Muhammed Ali once signed up for a Title Fight against a Bar Bouncer who was over forty and no real fight history. Well, Ali had the top of world class speed, response, and finess. Guess what, it took the full fight and points to win that contest. Despite being one of the most gifted in the sport of boxing, that Bouncer won Ali's respect.

When I was coming up in the ranks of Tae Kwon Do, Jhune Rhee brought a bunch of his own black belts down for us to spar and learn from. I was a brown belt at the time, and was matched up against a Korean born 5th degree who was almost a foot shorter than myself. I started out sparring using powerful side kicks and thought I was starting to get the best of him. When he disappeared to somewhere and suddenly an inverted leg came up between my own legs and that heel struck my solar plexis causing me to lose my breath. I was educated on some very strong traits gained with accumulated strength, technique, and application in competition.

In Korea, a contestant in a match is not allowed to quit the fight with injury. He is expected to fight through the injury and after the match is over, seek medical treatment if required. I know, I had five stitches in my upper lip in a no hand strike to the head match...but won the match. That goes to motivation and drive.

Colombo doesn't have to be the fastest or most gazele like player on the field...only to physically require the person to both defeat him and the person breaking off of Colombo's block. Here, strength returns to the physical and power producing Colombo....slow or not. Although at present, Colombo isn't among the slower of linemen in the NFL. He still lead blocks to the outside very well. That is my indicator, not history of stitches abstractly applied.

A Jersey is half a cow. Holsteins are the real deal.

:lmao2: Ever done an udder comparison? The Jersey was a gift to the wife, and named Daisy. You know, don't look a gift cow in the mouth....We had a $200 young cow jump fence and was bread by a quality bull...and 'Herman' was a quality bull himself, afterwards.

When one plans for the next year, first one attempts to get a good chance to win. I think with the draft securing Dez Bryant and then Sean Lee, the team pretty well chopped a good chunk from the trunk of the tree with those top picks. Now, since someone gets ansie, foul and stupid evaluation by the Dallas staff is being hollered.

If one thinks that this talent evaluators and coaches are stupid and inbred, pick Philadelphia, Washington, or the Giants to root for then.

Myself, I'm willing to bet that following the 'Turk's' last blood letting, one or two of the Dallas slain end up on another team's roster with that team being quite happy about the pickups.

Two weeks Colombo gets to rehab and the sky is supposed to be falling huh? Heck, Erik Williams used to miss whole camps and no one messed with him come the regular season. No more than a scope in line, Colombo is far from a walking wounded....but by all means, cry on!

Wow. Chek back around midseason.

another critical injury. We are looking to be the nyg of this year.

I wouldn't say a 2-4 week injury is critical. It could be a blessing in disguise to see Young and/or Brewster with the starters.

I own and milk a 60 cow, holstein dairy. Also, when I have the time, I help a local auctioneer at sales where the I can observe the different breeds, and in my observation, holstein udders seem to hold up better than jersey's in the long run. So yes, I have done udder comparisons. No offense to Daisy.

actually, I think the real benefit is that we are going to get a serious look at Barron.

this is pretty much it for him. even if Colombo comes in and plays 16 this year, Barron has the chance to show teams that he can be a starter. Huge $$ opportunity for the guy

That's true. This is basically an audition for Barron for the other 31 teams in the league, because I honestly don't see us re-signing Barron after this year. It's put-up or shut up for the guy.

I was one like 4 people on the board that liked the young pick.

I hear you. I honestly didn't know what to think about the pick. I have a friend who's a hardcore, Notre Dame fan and he didn't have a lot of nice things to say about Young, but a lot of factors can go into a player underachieving after high expectations (poor strength & conditioning program, coaching, players around him, etc). I like Young's attitude and I love how he's looking at tape of Colombo to improve his game.

if he plays well in this spot we'll likely try to keep him. few teams get a player, have him look good and then show no interest in keeping him.

I agree. I think Barron will be serviceable.

Someone help me out here, When did this injury occur ?
Oakland Game, training camp ? I don't remember hearing about this injury until now ?

Sorry, and THANKS !

Apparently Jones just told some of the reporters that Colombo will miss 10 days to two weeks, and will definitely be back for the season opener.

The other day in practice. It's just some loose bodies in his knee according to reports. So he will get a scope to clean it out.
