In the above link these are among the players Dallas interviewed at the 2016 combine.

RB
Zeke Elliott - top 20 pick
Derrick Henry-round 2
CJ Prosise - round 3-4
Deandre Washington - round 5-6

QB
Dak Prescott - round 3-4
Paxton Lynch - top 15 pick
No need to interview Wentz, they coached him - top 5 pick

DL
Andrew Billings - Mid-Late round 1
Noah Spence - Mid-Late round 1
Deforest Buckner - Mid-Late round 1
Joey Bosa - top 10 pick
Robert Nkemdiche: Mid-Late round 1

SS
Sua Cravens - round 2

OL
laremy Tunsil - top 5
Halapoulivaati Vaita - round 6-7

So if you look at all of this, I think you can start to get a feel for the Dallas draft plan.

With the pick #4, Trade back, Wentz, Tunsil, or Bosa
With a possible trade back scenario, a plethera of guys are possible. Billings, Spence, Buckner, Elliott, Lynch, Nkem, or maybe one of these guys could slide to round 2.
It seems they could be leaning Secondary in round 2 or RB. Or both in a trade.
In round 3 maybe get Prescott or a second tier QB they like.
Mid rounds, snag a RB like Prosise or Washington.
Late round get a OT prospect.

All of these are positions of need, so the plan may be shaping up.

Worked out well with Mo so why not

Im in agreement with the point you are making here. I dont see how you draft a player in confidence having never sat down and talked to them. Unless they are some stud player that you didnt realistically think you would have a chance to select

I can find a way to like most picks just not Bosa. I think the medias even starting to catch up with him. He should go 15-20 in my opinion even though he'll go top 8

I'm sure Ramsey, Goff, Jack, Treadwell and many others will be coming for pre-draft visits. The NFL allows teams to invite up to 30 national draft prospects for a pre-draft visit and a unlimited amount of local players for a pre-draft workout.

I thing the Prescott interview is interesting from several angles...

-If the team truly thinks Romo can play for the next two seasons, then Prescott with two years to sit and learn... may be as good as any QB in this draft.
-That would allow the team to focus on defense with the first two picks... Choose a couple good names.
-Take a RB in round 4.

Could be a way of not only helping build for the future but will help set the team for success in '16.

Worst case scenario Prescott is a bridge while you work to find a true "ready to start" rookie through the draft in 6-10 years. Smart business - invest those bigger dollars in the trenches and guys for Prescott to throw to (Dez, etc.).

Certainly only a small percentage of fans are considering a QB drafted after round 1.

The majority seem to have their minds set that the only solution is a QB drafted at #4... Are they right?

One of the things we've learned from VR over the years is that first round pick can be a surprise.

If Dallas truly believes that one of the top-3 is a franchise guy then yeah you probably have to take them.

BUT if there is some wishy-washiness to the whole thing, then I'm fine getting a developmental guy later on and spending that first pick on a defensive player.
