Come On Greg...*MERGE*

Wow. He's been the "team leader" in sacks on a team that couldn't get to the freakin' QB. Big accomplishment.

Exactly. For a team that couldn't get to the QB, he always found his way there, and we're gonna cut him now? because what? he wants more money. Shoot when i see guys getting signed for 80 million dollars, i'd want some money to

So he was the best pass rusher out of a group of sorry pass rushers.

Not exactly a ringing endorsement.

Plus, look at the pic a few posts above. He'll never be the same.

Never in his career was he a "Good" or "Great" pass rusher. Now with the injury... he'll be lucky to be average.

I know.

But with Spencer unproven, Carpenter unproven, Burnett unproven, Ayodele hasn't shown much as a pass rusher, ditto on Bradie....

Canty, Spears haven't shown anything....

Ratliff has in his limited time; Hatcher remains raw...

Why not keep Ellis and throw him in the mix? Even him at average (4-5 sacks) is going to more than some of the aforementioned.

First, shut your mouth and apologize to Jerry. Second, try to make the team. Your spot is far from guaranteed and imo a greater than 50% chance you will be cut in late August. You are probably the 7th or 8th best 3-4 LB on the team right now. No other team will offer you anything more than vet min + incentives. And your trade value is zip. Then(assuming you are not waived injured or cut), be happy you are still a Cowboy and get $2.5 million to play this year. You get to stay in Dallas(you really don't want to live in Detroit or Buffalo, do you?). No state tax. No moving and relocation expenses. And you get to finish your career as a Dallas Cowboy and a possible SB ring. Get that ring and then you can retire, stay in Dallas, possible become an announcer, do some autograph signings, make some commercials for Dallas businesses, etc.

p.s. Without a SB ring you will always be known as that chump the Cowboys mistakenly drafted instead of Randy Moss. And Spencer jersey sales are outpacing Ellis jersey sales by a margin of 10,000 to 1.

I get that, but i think he can at least play out his contract as a pass rush specialist. It's not like he's getting payed lots of money to stay, and when the season starts he's shuts his mouth and plays the game. So i mean i don't see a problem with keeping him. Espically the one guy that you know works hard and plays hard every single play. May not be great, but we dont have that many hard workers in the NFL, when things arent going there way (spears anyone?)

Last year I was on the fence with Keeping Ellis. The crying was annoying. This year, enough is enough. If he hadn't been injured (and the type of injury he had) I might feel differently. This is an injury that takes at least 2 years to fully recover (physically and mentally). Seeing how mentally/emotionally weak Ellis is (crying cuz we drafted another pass rusher) I don't see him fully overcoming this injury.

I won't shed a tear if we keep him, but I sure as hell won't shed one if we give him the boot.

A pass rush specialist? HE has never been a "Good" pass rusher. Now with age and the injury, even less so. If anything he might be a solid RUN stopping specialist as a 3-4 OLB, but pass rushing... those days are behind him. Mark my words, he'll have 5 or less sacks this year (if he plays 16 games).

Ellis didn’t get to the QB using speed. He is excellent at using his hands and strength. I’ll take Greg at 75% anyday.

Money? this guy thinks he's underpaid!? is he serious! He's been a complete let down for where he was drafted, and for his size and hype - he just simply isn't that good - truth be told, he's a backup football player. However he is an All - Pro whiner.

Lets release him and move on - Ellis is from the losing era, which he did little about to change.

thats why we got Spencer goes he got a 2 main problems his injury will maybe take 2 years for him to be at his potienal and his big mouth.

I agree i don't think he gets lots of sacks. But i don't see the outrage in what he's doing. he's not demanding a trade, he's not demanding anything. He's just speaking his concerns. Some see it as crying and whinning, i really don't care. If on Sept 9(or when he's cleared to play). he goes out there and does what ever he can to help this team, i could care less.

Greg Ellis 100 X >>>>>>>>Bob Bruening;)

I agree with Rack on this. Sure he led the team in sacks..........with 8 whole sacks on several occassions. But 8 sacks in a season isn't exactly pro bowl numbers.

He is the past, not the future, we may as well start living in the future with Spencer and Carpenter. Get rid of Ellis, he will only be stunting the progression of our young guys. Let the young guys play...........that's our future.

Yeah a guy who was Tom Landry's anchor - compared to a soft whining bench player - you never saw the Cowboys of the 70's early 80's

If Ellis is "Mr. Negative," then what the hell is left for me? Step off, Greg.

Yea i understand that. But i don’t hear the players doing that tho.

They whined during the whole mini-camp about how Bill "held them back", how did you not hear it???

Everlastingxxx;1500094 said:
They get asked questions about last season and they give their outlook.
So the word "outlook" is a new term for whineing, hmm, I see! I've said this before and I'll say it again, the players control what comes outta their own mouth. The media puts a microphone to their mouth, not a gun to their head. The players need to show some class and take some personal responsibility with the things they say about their former coach and about their play, afterall if it weren't for Bill they prolly wouldn't be working where they are or at all, for some of them.

This defense will be #1 in the league next season and more than one guy will have double digit sacks. That will be the proof and will shut up most of those bashing them.

Well bud I have to say I hope you're right, but I've gotten my hopes up about them in years past only to be dissappointed when it was all over with and even before it was over with. So cross your fingers but don't hold your
breath, I ain't comin' to your funeral.

Keep him get rid of him I do not care.

As it has already been said though he never was great, and he is coming off a really bad injury and he is not ideally suited for the 3-4.

If it turns out that Greg Ellis with all those issues would again be our second best pass rusher then that to me spells doom for this supposedely awesome talent Dallas has assembled on defense.

Like a poster appropriately said earlier...Ellis is the past and not the future.

It's obvious that Grego is trying to orchestrate his own release. This is not Greg-like, and I think he's taken a page from the TO camp. If he whines long enough, they will just cut him.

Greg wants to play DE in a 4-3, he made this known last year. So let's do him a favor and grant him his wish.
