Extremely little to go by...

...but James Gunn's tweet including Blue Beetle removes practically any remaining doubt Warner Bros Discovery will dump the film.

Wakanda Forever, Thor 4 and Black Adam.

I guess I'm not an auteur.

Thor 4 was great, not sure why some people dissed it. I enjoy the humor.

And Black Adam.... okay, I admit , not winning an Oscar soon, but still great watching the Rock take care of business. The cameo at the end also uber cool.... about time DC admitted they have a universe and just need to go with it.

Doctor Strange 2? Not bad, but too much of that comic book multi-verse nonsense.

It's really tough for me to leave Batman off my top three, I'm a huge fan, and wasn't a bad movie, but sorry, I don't want to see Twilight Batman take over the mantle.

I think they should cut ties with doctor strange and start over. Aside from the first movie with him, he sucks. All the money and movies spent on him, and the only cool thing about it, is the scene of his cloak choosing him.

The Visual Effects Race Heats Up
By Carolyn Giardina | The Hollywood Reporter
December 5, 2022

It’s getting close to the time of year when the executive committee of the Academy’s visual effects branch selects the 10 shortlisted films that will continue in the VFX category race, and among the anticipated contenders, the branch also has some unexpected choices to consider.

While the presumed frontrunner, James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of Water, won’t be released until Dec. 16, the sequel to the director’s 2009 fantasy film seems a fait accompli for the shortlist. The work was led by Weta FX and four-time Oscar-winning senior VFX supervisor Joe Letteri (who with Weta also led the work on the original Avatar, which won the VFX Oscar). The Way of Water involves new techniques, including those used in performance capture.

Also expected are multiple contenders from the long list of this year’s effects-laden Marvel and DC movies, which include Marvel’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness and Thor: Love and Thunder, as well as DC’s Black Adam and The Batman. (Individuals in this mix include Black Adam‘s production VFX supervisor, Bill Westenhofer, who previously won Oscars for Life of Pi and The Golden Compass.)

In five of the past six years, at least one Marvel movie has been nominated in the category. (The exception was the 2020 season, when, due to the pandemic, the studio didn’t have a theatrical release.) The catch: Despite the popularity and scale of these movies, the last time a comic-book-based feature claimed a VFX Oscar was 18 years ago, for 2004’s Spider-Man 2 — long before the Marvel Cinematic Universe dominated the box office.

Can Avatar 2 Actually Earn Enough At The Box Office To Be Profitable?
By Stephen M. Colbert | Screen Rant
December 5, 2022

James Cameron's last two movie releases both went on to become the highest-grossing movie of all time, but thanks to a massive budget for Avatar: The Way Of Water, there's concerns about the movie's ability to turn a profit. It may be a sequel to the highest-grossing movie of all time, but arriving 13 years later in a post-<CENSORED> box office environment, can Avatar 2 actually earn enough money at the box office to break even?

According to Cameron, Avatar: The Way of Water needs to break box office records in order to recoup its budget. It makes sense for the sequel to the highest-grossing movie of all time to get an increased budget, but could Cameron and Disney have over-committed by making Avatar 2 so expensive? Fortunately, Cameron has proven his ability at the box office, and the movie's inflated budget may not be as extreme as it appears.

Even though the first Avatar is the highest-grossing movie of all time, the potential for Avatar: The Way of Water to see a similar box office performance has always been hotly contested. Not only is it arriving nearly a decade and a half after the first movie, but the 3D technology that made Avatar so popular is hardly as novel anymore. Additionally, most of the other box office performers are based on popular IP like Marvel, Star Wars, or Jurassic Park, and while Avatar: The Way of Water is a sequel, it's not based on a property that has as much brand momentum compared to other popular franchises.

These are some great links for reference. I do not agree 100% with any of the lists but the summation is very solid. I am seriously considering and posting a top 50 or top 75 list, in order, based on these articles' content.

Joker #1 by far. So many versions, and almost all of them were talked about or received acting awards. Just a part that lends itself to great performances.

A lot of great actors and actresses on that list though, that made most of these roles pop.

I would like to see DC take Lex Luthor to the next level. Gene Hackman and Kevin Spacey, great actors, but apparently just care about real estate. LOL. The kid from Social Network, weird casting choice.

The guy who played Lex in Smallville is easily my favorite. He makes it much more personal than anyone else.

10 Movies That Are Totally Different From The Comics They're Based On
By Dalton Norman | Screen Rant
December 7, 2022

Unforeseen circumstances have altered the course of recent comic book movies like Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, but long-time comic book fans can recall other times that comic adaptations went off script. Despite having a wealth of comic stories to pull from, some movies opt to completely ignore their source material.

From baffling unfunny movies like Howard the Duck to dulled-down superhero movies like Fantastic Four, totally ignoring the comics can have good consequences, but they are usually always disappointing. Though adaptations require changes no matter what, some comic book movies changed so much that they were virtually unrecognizable.

Patty Jenkins’ ‘Wonder Woman 3’ Not Moving Forward as DC Movies Hit Turning Point (Exclusive)
By Borys Kit | The Hollywood Reporter
December 7, 2022

<snip>

A cleaning of the slate is common when a new executive team is put in place to run a studio or division but there is likely little precedent for the amount of Clorox James Gunn and Peter Safran could spray as they prepare to launch DC Studios and guide superhero movies for the next half decade and beyond.

The duo in recent days flew back to Los Angeles from the snowy city of Aspen, Colorado, where they were huddled in deep planning, and now like holy figures coming down from the mountaintop, have sets of commandments or a DC Bible in hand. Or at least a working blueprint.

Gunn and Safran are expected to meet next week with David Zaslav, the Warner Bros. Discovery CEO who is radically reshaping the media company and who hired the duo in October to lead a newly launched film and TV division. The pair will unveil to Zaslav a plan that is expected to lay out their vision. Although much of their plan, which insiders paint as still a work-in-progress and one that has yet to be approved, is being kept deep in the Batcave, details of several possible paths forward are trickling out. And at least one path not being taken has also been revealed.

Multiple sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman 3 is not moving forward and is considered dead in its current incarnation.

I was just about to post this article! I should have known you’d beat me to it!

From the sounds of it, there are some MAJOR CHANGES taking place.

While I’m glad to hear that they’re finally closing the door on the Snyderverse, I’m disappointed that Henry Cavill will be leaving with it. I think he was a great Superman, shackled by a poor vision of the character.

Huh, would be surprising to me to not keep Cavill in the plans. Same with Gal Gadot.

To me, he was one of the few bright spots for DC/male actors, and it's not like he's getting too old to play the role.
And while WW84 was a let down, she is perfect for the role.

I like Gadot, but I think she could be replaced adequately.

I think “let down” is being kind. That thing was a train wreck and never gets the criticism that it rightly deserves.

And I think the current management knows this and is proceeding accordingly.
