as usual i'll try to go into " Supergirl " with a open mind.

i think Gunn is gonna try to make her a very likeable character first ..
. and mix it with CGI effect, fighting action well have to see what the story plot and villain (s) comes into.

Frankly i've neer been a fan of Supergirl, .. i take her much like i do Hawkgirl .. shes more an add on to a group of superheros ala Justice League.
Not intrguing/ intereting enuff, imo .

But at least its not the usual same ole repeated Superman & Batman only movie retread/retries again ...

I loved Laura Vandervoort as Supergirl in Smallville.

My decades-old hope has been for the character to be presented as her own person instead of a carbon copy of her cousin. Even the little I have been exposed to her in the comics within the past 10-15 years or so has demonstrated that someone partially got that memo finally.

DC would grow a pair by committing to a total separation of the family relationship between her and Kal-El. A whole planet of Kryptonians (outside the Phantom Zone) dies, BUT two cousins survive. What ARE the odds? :rolleyes:

Give her a total remake. Get away from 1950's thinking. Tiny changes like calling her Superwoman, Powerwoman, etc., would be a good foundation. Imagination is limitless except for actual authors and writers, lol.

So far, my top two opinions of a screen version (large or small) of the character are still Superman/Batman: Apocalypse and Legion of Super-Heroes. That's two in sixteen freaking years. Placing my hopes into James Gunn's hands. Tentatively.

I will accept a concession of anything that will wipe my brain of her appearance in The Flash nonsense. At the very least, I wanted her to be my silver lining in it. Whatever. So happy Ezra Miller is yesterday's news.

I think the movie is going to follow the eight-issue comic miniseries Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. If true, it'll be a revenge driven plot. Hoping for the best and looking forward to seeing Comet. :thumbup:

I totally agree with its quality as I mentioned a few years ago (link) and it could have been up for nomination for the 2024 ceremony if not for Crunchyroll rules' (link):

"... In order to make the list, the anime in question must have had production take place primarily in Japan as well as having been broadcast and/or premiered in Japan. Anime series must have been aired in Japan at least in part between December [year] and October [following year] and had legal distribution of at least 6 episodes in the US at any point in [following year]."​

Blue Eye Samurai was mainly produced by the French studio Blue Spirit (link) exclusively for release by Netflix and its Netflix Animation wing. I disagree, but non-Japanese created content is formally or informally labeled as animation instead of anime.

It is the release exclusivity that causes Crunchyroll to thumb their noses at some shows and movies. Basically, the company has a catalog of shows and movies that is huge compared to all other streamers, does not show love for stuff they do not have shared distribution rights.

It's all good though. BES won four times out of five Primetime Emmy Awards nominations in 2024 for:
  • Outstanding Animated Program
  • Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation, Character Design
  • Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation, Production Design
  • Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation, Storyboard
  • Outstanding Sound Editing for a Comedy or Drama Series (Half-Hour) and Animation nominee
That is equally critical acclaim within the industry.

Hopefully it was in reference to not knowing Disney+ has revived the series. The company had announced it would eventually bring back The Punisher and other Netflix series, but then preceded to drag their feet in producing any series from the other streaming service afterwards. And that includes Daredevil: Born Again. Otherwise, the not-being-in-the-loop did actually begin in 2017, lol.

I understand the studio desires higher profit margins, but it had already been pushing its visual development team into producing high quality content under increasingly smaller time constraint windows and deadlines. Subquality efforts were documented at times with She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, The Marvels, etc.

Now, their goal is heavily erasing the human element, leaning heavily on A.I. production with less human oversight, and expect above average or great visuals for future projects? It may be my paranoia talking, but methinks overall quality might routinely dip in this power move to improve profitability.
 


Wish I had caught this segment when it originally aired. I got all five right, lol. Good stuff, but the original Transformers show was a cartoon. It was not an anime.

It’s most definitely because they feel they can get ‘acceptable’ results from AI. Spider-Man Brand New Day is a great example. That trailer (and the subsequent film) are loaded with AI-generated effects shots. And it’s merely the beginning.

Check out what people outside of the major studios have been able to do on YouTube. If they can do that, one can only imagine what the big studios will be able to do.

Ai sucks but i
Imagine the ai Disney has at their disposal is much better.
 
Looks like an attempt to have an origin story. The movie he never got. Maybe just my bias with the Disney Kids brand, but I find it hard to believe that they will give the character justice. Something like a Garth Ennis Max brand story is what this character needs. And John Wick style graphic violence.
