Will be leaving Tucson on Thursday June 21st and arriving in San Antonio around noon on Friday June 22nd. Going to be attending a wedding on Saturday the 23rd at 3:00 PM and then the reception. Sunday the 24th will be taking the family to 6 Flags and then we'll head part of the way home later that day.

Best place to buy 6 flags passes?

Anyone have any suggestions for stuff to do Friday afternoon & evening as well as Saturday morning? Good places to eat, etc.

My wife really wants to go to the Riverwalk Friday, so if you can recommend a good restaurant in that area I'd appreciate it.

If anyone wants to meet me while I am down there, please PM me and we'll swap cell numbers.

The hotel we're staying at is near the airport.

The only place I have ever been to in SA is Ft Sam Houston and I doubt I could ever find the place again. :D

I hope they don't have any revolving doors at the hotel :D

If you go to the riverwalk, you might as well go to the Alamo since it is just across the street.

I would suggest you stop in at Dick's Last Resort, if it is still there, on the riverwalk but I know you do not drink so that is out.

I envy you going to SA. I loved it when I was there.

Maybe, but if I did, which I will not go on record as saying I did, it would be more of the stone wall that surrounds the alamo and before I would know it was the alamo since I would have been on the side. That is if I did. :laugh1:

Every chain restaurant you can imagine is on the Riverwalk...

Little Rhein Steakhouse is really good, but you ARE in SA and you need Mexican food...

I used to really enjoy Mi Tierra and I assume it is still good. It is also open 24 hours...

There is plenty to do on the Riverwalk with the family, so that shouldn't be a problem...

I'll be in SA the weekend before you...

Hos, you will have a blast.

I took my family to San Antonio for the first time last year and we really had a great time.

There's a really nice historic area that's about a dozen blocks away from the Riverwalk, and they had some great Bed and Breakfasts there. My wife and kids and I stayed at one of them for far less than the hotels in downtown San Antonio charged, and in about a 10 minute walk along the river, you could be in the heart of the Riverwalk area.

Here's where we stayed:
Gardenia Inn
307 Beauregard St.
San Antonio, TX 78204
(800) 356-1605
www.gardenia-inn.com

As for food, you really can't go wrong. Most places have menus displayed right on the walk, so you can browse and see what looks good. Outside seating filled up fast, so we usually picked places where we could find river-side seating.

We took the little boat tour of the Riverwalk, and that was fun.

We didn't make it to 6 Flags but we did go to the zoo, which was fun. And of course the Alamo.

I don't remember where we ate, but if I remember anything I'll post it here.

I'm staying at the Riverwalk during Training Camp. It's a fun place. If it's still open I highly recommend an Italian Restaurant right on the Riverwalk whose name escapes me. I ate there back in 2003 and loved it.

I live in Corpus Christi, but I can recommend some good places. Neither is by the Riverwalk, but they are some of the best Mexican restaurants.

One was already mentioned here. Mi tierra. This one is at what's called the Market square. The other is Pico de Gallo, just a few blocks from Mi Tierra.

If you need more, let me know and I can talk to my sister-in-law who lives there.

San Antonio is a great place to live and visit.

I'm down here, so maybe I can help a little bit.

As for food, depending on what you're willing to spend, you have a ton of options on the riverwalk.

For breakfast, what I'd definitely recommend is Las Canarias in La Mansion del Rio. It's a huge buffet - amazing food - but pricy. Worth it, though, but I wouldn't do it every morning. Cheaper places down the way with good food as well.

If you're there for a few days, also try the Guenter House. Off the Riverwalk, probably about ten minutes away by cab - but they'll all know where it is. Indoor/outdoor place at an old house in a flour mill. Great waffles, pancakes, biscuits and gravy, fresh fruit, etc. Not too expensive, either.

For regular meals, there's a great restaurant called Boudro's. A Bistro type. http://www.boudros.com/boudros/

Paesano's has great Italian food. And for Mexican food, I'd leave the riverwalk and go to the Market Square to, as has been mentioned, Mi Tierra or La Margarita. Owned by the same family - both in the market.

Biga on the Banks is a really good restaurant, too. www.biga.com

There are some good restaurants in the Hotel Valencia of which I'm drawing blanks on their names. If you haven't booked a place to stay, I'd look at the Valencia - a very modern hotel (http://sanantonio.hotelvalencia.com/san-antonio-riverwalk-home.php), the Watermark Hotel - which has a full service spa for the wife, La Mansion del Rio - an old spanish feeling hotel. Or the new Hotel Contessa. All of them are on the quieter end of the riverwalk.

And there's Sushi Zushi, if you're into that.

If you have kids with you, there's Hard Rock Cafe and The Rainforest Cafe.

As far as Fiesta Texas tickets - HEB has them, but you can get them at the gate with no real problems.
