Anyone know the signing bonus? This shows $17.2M over 7 years in salary.

So its a 3 year, $1.8 MM contract not counting signing bonus. Not bad.

thanks to Adam and the NFLPA site.........

Lloyd got a 7 year deal, worth a total of $28.950m including:

- base salaries of $0.500m (2006), $0.545m (2007), $0.605m (2008), $3.500m (2009), $4.000m (2010), $4.000m (2011), $4.000m (2012)
- $5m signing bonus
- $5m option bonus due in 2007 that triggers the seventh year (2012) of the contract (this bonus is protected by guaranteed salaries for 2007-2011 if not excercised)
- $1.8m roster bonus in 2008
- after being excercised, the option year of 2012 can be voided if Lloyd meets certain performance criteria

Cap hits are (excluding workout bonuses):
2006 - $1.500m (less than his RFA tender amount)
2007 - $2.378m
2008 - $4.238m
2009 - $5.333m
2010 - $5.833m
2011 - $4.833m
2012 - $4.835m

Similar in structure to the other key free agent contracts signed this offseason, and as I predicted slightly less than what Randel El received.

So it's a reasonable contract if he performs well but potentially a problem if he doesn't. Because he gets the 5 million this year in bonuses and then another 5 next year which pretty much can't be avoided, he's going to cost more off the roster than on for quite some time. And anytime they rework it , they push back the date when he's cheaper off the roster than on. Not unusual, especially for the Commanders.

I gotta admit, not too shabby for the Commanders...

They seriously backloaded their contract, to make it work for now. Maybe Jerry should be taking notes?

I don't understand how they get guys to sign these bogus deals. How can you not realize that after the signing bonus, it's 3 years of chump change (by NFL standards) and then you get cut before you make a decent base salary. Are the agents really that bad?

Okay didn't see this... um... nevermind, it's a good deal for him (still only 3 years really though)

It's either of two things: (1) He's content with a 3 year chump change contract or (2) He's dumb.

So are the cap hits per year taking into account the $5 m signing bonus AND the $5 M roster bonus (which is basically mandatory) next year??

I was initially going to choose door number 2, but after looking at it... he's got $5m in his pocket right now, will get $5 M next year, that's almost assured. Then his salary for the three years before he's cut/restructured is almost $2 M... So it's a 3 year, $12 M deal... not too bad for a #3 WR.

he just wants a few quick bucks.

Like someone said on the board, this hurts the Commanders in a way, because the players get most of their money up front, and there's no point in playing hard for the team. You already got your money.

Yeah I said something like this before, don't know if you're referring to me. In this case, Lloyd is getting $10 of his $12 M in two bonuses. That's two big pay days. His salaries per year for the first 3 years are chump change. Then you know no matter how well he plays when his salaries bump up in 2009, he will be asked to restructure or outright released. With the bonuses being guaranteed money and the back end guaranteed to NOT be paid, I don't see the incentive to be a team player. His performance incentive is to void the final year of the contract, which he's not going to see anyway. I bet there is a correlation to free agent flops and contracts like this.

PC misread Lloyd's base salary for 2007 when he posted that. Lloyd will make $595,000 in 2007, and the total value is $29 million.

He's getting $13.5 million over the first three years. That's $4.5 million per season -- not exactly chump change.
