He's getting $13.5 million over the first three years. That's $4.5 million per season -- not exactly chump change.
True. For whatever reason I was only counting his $5MM signing bonus.

Yeah I said something like this before, don't know if you're referring to me. In this case, Lloyd is getting $10 of his $12 M in two bonuses. That's two big pay days. His salaries per year for the first 3 years are chump change. Then you know no matter how well he plays when his salaries bump up in 2009, he will be asked to restructure or outright released. With the bonuses being guaranteed money and the back end guaranteed to NOT be paid, I don't see the incentive to be a team player. His performance incentive is to void the final year of the contract, which he's not going to see anyway. I bet there is a correlation to free agent flops and contracts like this.

yup, you're the one. I thought it was you, but I didn't want to randomly throw your name out. That was a nice post, and maybe the reason why the Commanders have not been successful in past Free Agent endeavors.

So are the cap hits per year taking into account the $5 m signing bonus AND the $5 M roster bonus (which is basically mandatory) next year??
I'm not the guy to ask but I would guess that they do take the bonuses into account. I assume that next year's bonus is being assumed to be prorated from 2007 on (as well as this year's). Anyone?

It's either of two things: (1) He's content with a 3 year chump change contract or (2) He's dumb.

it's #3, if all else fails, he's going to be receiving money regardless if he fulfills the contract obligations or not, if he does, he'll ask for a bigger contract, if not, he'll take the money and run aka get cut

Sorry I wasn't specific enough on my question. I was asking if the cap numbers listed in the contract breakdown at like post #4 or 5 were taking the $5M roster bonus in 2007 into account. That in addition to the $5M signing bonus will be $10 M prorated over the life of the deal.

Wish my agent sucked 1/2 that bad... :) 1/4, 1/8 - just wish I had an agent.

Maybe you missed the post above.

With the two big bonus checks to offset the low salary in the first three years - this guy is set. From what I see in the contract numbers and bonus timing - the agent did a good job here.
And
The Commanders are always going to offer these types of contracts. Some day somewhere the Skins will hit the end of the Salary cap road.
Until then - they are playing the game - CAP ways - as best as they can. Always putting off till tomorrow.

Also if deemed necessary, the Commanders could convert his future roster bonus into an additional SB for the remainder of the contract.

People have been saying this for years...I'll believe it when I see it.

His agent sucks??!?! What are you people talking about??

It's a great contract for Lloyd. He's getting $13.5M over 3 years and then the deal will be restructured while he's still young enough to get another big bonus. It's a MONSTER deal for a guy who's never caught 50 passes in a season.

Just another example of the Skins paying 'A' money to a 'B' player. At least they were smart enough to spread his $10M bonus out over two payments in case he acts like an idiot like he did in San Fran.

I bet you'd be right if you said older free agents. Lloyd is a young player so if he gets released after three years, he'll be a 5 year vet, right in his prime. No one would be willing to pay a big paycheck to a 5 year vet who still hasn't played well, so his incentive to play well would be to make him more marketable at the 3 year mark.
Older free agents know that this is very likely their last payday, so when it comes, they have no reason to work anymore.

10 mill guaranteed

This is the kicker. I know that the 4skins play with alot of funny money in those large contracts, but the 10 mil. guaranteed is what we have invested in T.O. ferchrissakes. :lmao2: Great signing, Danny Boy.
