Our defense looked great while our offense looked putrid.

We looked like **** yet were still able to pull the win out. All in all, im just happy to get the W here. Hopefully our offense will be able to pull it together. Our runnning finally started showing signs of like in the second, and hopefully betts and portis will be able to keep it up for a full season.

I haven't read through the whole thread, but what is all of your thoughts on the game?

you nailed our thoughts, well mine at least

you guys have a very good running game and run D, but that's about it, both your passing O and passing D is highly questionable, I don't see you guys scoring many points this year

As always, you get an honest, fair assessment from you. I think the end of regulation was amazing. I agree the Dolphins D is tough. I expected you guys to win it easy if the truth be told. In the end it counts the same.

what boggles my mind is that Jason Campbel can throw a perfect deep ball, but constantly overthrows short and intermediate routes. I really think that if he can get his short routes down, that our offense should be fairly good. And dont forget that this is a top 10 defense as well. There front 7 is arguably the best in the league. So hopefully (for skins fans at least), campbell will start to look better against weaker defenses.

I think we will find out what type of team we really are after next weeks game IN philly

The good passing teams are going to feast on the skins secondary.

Santana, he was open a lot on intermediate passes. Campbell was just on a crap fest when it came to short and intermediate throws. They were taking the deep ball away from him. I don't understand how Jason can be so amazing at deep throws but borderline terrible on the short routes.

Smoot, he did a good job, didn't get beat deep and only gave up a few short throws. Can't believe he dropped that INT, but damn I'll take that over a first down.

Pass rush? It was there at times and then it wasn't. Your not gonna be sacking the QB on every play. The Dolphins played conservative so I don't know where you get this from. Lots of three step drops and short passes.

Carlos, yeah I give up on him. I tried hard liking the guy but the only thing hes good at is tackling. Hes a nickel back.

It shouldn't boggle your mind. Ever see Quincy Carter play? It's like watching replays of him back there... #17 and all.

Again, see Quincy Carter... it's all a tease. It will never get better. Inconsistency is inconsistency and doesn't get better.

Philly is going to destroy JC. Did you hear all game how Miami had like 8 Ints all last season yet 2 against JC? And no, they didn't change their secondary.

I think the jury might still be out on Campbell. He shows signs of being a good QB (his deep passes to Randle El)... yet, on the other hand, he shows signs of being another Commanders first round bust like mark rypien.

I just hope that he can gain composure and pull himself together. Lining up against Jason Taylor should rattle any QB. Although, going up against a Demarcus Ware, Michael Strahan and Shawn Merriman is an easy task either, so we will see how he turns out.

the reason Campbell is successful on deep throws is because his arm is strong and he puts alot of air under it, the thing about throwing short and intermediate is varying the speed on your ball, Campbell doesn't know how to do that, he was putting alot of air under his short throws today

I somewhat agree with that. If you look at this game, Miami tried to dink and dunk it on us all day, and that will never work against us. The only time that Miami had success on our defense is when they threw it down the field. I think we will have troubles next week against mcnabb and his deep passing approach. We shall see though

Drawing a blank- what was the name of the Carolina QB and then the Giants QB a few years ago- Campbell reminds of the way he played.

Exactly. If you look at Qb's like Brett Favre, they do the same thing. Hopefully since JC is young, he can still learn from these mistakes. If he doesnt learn to change his ways, he will be in for a very mediocur career

Here's my question.

How can we possibly know how good the Skins' defense is?

Yes, they've looked good in the preseason and today...but who have they played?

1. A Titans team without its best player.
2. Pittsburgh....a team that's changing its offense. Not a great offensive team last year.
3. Baltimore. A terrible offensive team.
4. Jacksonville....can't tell anything from final PS game.

Now, they've played Miami. A team that has issues at QB....they just got Green a few weeks ago. They've been terrible on offense for years now.

I'll say that the Skins have been shutting down bad offenses. Maybe that's the Skins really being good......maybe it's the fact that the offenses are really bad.

It's probably somewhere in between. The Skins have a good, not great defense.

I see the problem in his delivery. He throws a high arched ball. Three times he missed WR's on 10 yard passes, threw it about 3 feet over there heads.

It also doesn't help when your tallest WR is 5'11 but hes gotta work on it. Oh well, its the first game of the season, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. For all the inconsistency he did have some great plays. The way we dismantled the Dolphins front seven gives me a good feeling about us staying close in games. Campbell lacks the killer instinct, something Portis and Betts have, hopefully he develops it soon.

The Skins left a lot of yards on the field today. Brunell can't hit the deep balls anymore but he's deadly accurate on the underneath stuff; Campbell's the polar opposite. He has to stop rifling the five-yard passes.

Kerry Collins. Thanks. The way Campbell throws reminds of him. He had a great deep ball but short passes were his weakness.
