Commanders fan here... You need to demolish the team

But here goes.

You need to demolish the team. Completely. No holds barred, take no prisoners, no sacred cows. That may mean trading Romo (who is a top 5 to top 10 QB) or Ware (HOF pass rusher in his prime) for multiple draft picks (and a rebuild may very well force this, given their ages). This almost certainly means getting what you can for Dez and cutting your losses. This might mean trading Witten due to his age. That may mean 2 or 3 years of 3-13 seasons. But it needs to happen if Dallas is going to win a Super Bowl in the next decade or two.

You have some young keepers - I like Carr, and Clairborne is gonna be a beast. Lee is a beast. Smith probably is 2-3 years away from being a solid LT but he has the talent. I think at the end of the day, you would keep Ware, though if someone makes a RGIII-esque offer or better, you consider it. But your team needs an infusion of blue-chip talent now, and more importantly, you need to revamp your front office (I know this probably won't happen with Jerry). Get someone from the 49ers organization or the Patriots or the Packers, beef up your scouting department, and shove about 6 or 7 first day picks over the next 3 years into the trenches. Get a young coach, like a Mike Smith or a Ron Rivera that can instill toughness and discipline both on and off the field, and see if you can get a quality, innovative OC.

I know it's a tough pill to swallow, but the longer you put it off, the more disappointment and fans the team will experience. Romo in particular keeps your team in too many games to truly bottom out, and the Cowboys really need to bottom out for there to be a chance of change. Furthermore, Dallas needs a *cultural* change - no more slacking off or playing down to opponents, no more off the field drama, no more entitlement, no more guys like Free collecting a paycheck and getting fat after. That's why you need to go with the total rebuild - so the new hypothetical regime can make the organization in his image.

The fact is though, every team is a stud QB and 2 monster drafts away from winning a title. You can try to ride the rebuild out with Romo, and find a way to win 5 games or less with a top 5ish QB. Or you can get value for him and commit to suck for a few years and then try for a Niners-style resurgence. Either way, something has to give.

That is the perfect plan if we are talking about my NY Mets; otherwise, it's hogwash.

We've already talked about this. This team has already been "demolished". Its full of young guys on it. Romo, Ratliff, Witten and Ware are the only ones that are 30. You can't get any younger at this point.

Well, I would say this .... if this season goes really badly, you might want to consider trading Romo. If the team goes 4-12, or even 6-10, then you would have to start wondering about whether the team can get good enough within Romo's window. He'd probably have one to two good years left at that point. I don't see a team going 4-12 to the Super Bowl the following year. So you're effectively down to a year of window.

On top of that, Romo has a year left on his contract. So you can't trade him after next year unless you sign an extension. So as things stand now, it would have to happen at the end of this year.

We'd be in a better position to do it if we had drafted Griffin, but that's water under the bridge. I'm not sure the quarterback crop is going to be very good in the next couple of years, particularly compared to the past few.

It's interesting to wonder how much you could get for a top 5-10 quarterback in the current market.

Right now, Witten looks past the trade point. It's a little hard to say, because he might be just having a couple of bad games. But if he's not, then he's probably more valuable as a cagey vet for us. That said, we seem to have some talent at that position, so I wouldn't be against entertaining offers.

Trading Ware would kill our pass rush. I think he's been really good so far this year.

You know, I mentioned something like this before. I mentioned that if I was Romo, I would rethink on why I should continue on playing for the Dallas Cowboys.

We have an owner who is worried more about money rather than drafting or finding top quality Olinemen.

We have a coach that plays a very basic, vanilla offense that doesn't play to the strength of Romo.

Thus if I was in Romo's shoes, if I wanted a superbowl, do I stay in Dallas throughout my career? Or do I seek a top quality team in free agency that can go all the way?

I hate to say it but the Cowboys don't know what they have in Romo. Year after year they have failed to give him a top quality oline that can protect him. He is also stuck with a mediocre playcaller in Garrett, who isn't going to relinquish his playcalling anytime soon.

So if I was in Romo's shoes, do I stay or should I go?

I hate to say this but this team isn't built around Romo or is it built to win championships and superbowls. This team is built to accommodate Jerry's ego and to make sure the coffers are filled with cash. We can be a 5-11 team. But so long Jerry is making billions, he's still gonna be happy.

OP's name says it all, cause that's where his (her) head is! Nothing to see here.....Let's move on!

Yes, he might be able to go to a "top quality team" and get his ring. As a back up! Name me one "top quality team" that would be better off with Romo than their current QB?

Did you eat paint chips when you wre a kid? Stop freaking out after one game! This team is young! And it's gonna have a few bad games....they needed a slap in the face after feeling so invincible in NY

Really!! :laugh2:

How long did it take you to think this one out?

Explain to me what Mike Smith and Ron Rivera have done in this league?

The mighty Falcons scored 2 points in the playoffs last year and haven't won a playoff game with him as coach.

Most of the players that started Wade's last game as coach are now gone. Garrett is rebuilding this team, but it can't happen in two years. Next year the job will be complete. No one picked the Cowboys to go to the Super Bowl this year, so how can they be a disappointment?

The Falcons are a disappointment so far, we will see what they do this year. Let's see what Rivera does before you crown him king. The Panthers had a losing record last year and don't look so great this year.

Just wow! One and one. Just came off a tough road loss and its time to blow up the team. Knee jerk much? Can we at least play five or more games before stepping to the ledge?

The 49ers and Jets are two and there are several teams that would be much better with Romo that are not elite at this time.
