Commanders Overrated!

If we lose to the Chiefs....I'll be pissed. I know Arrowhead is a tough place to play...still...the Chiefs aren't going to be a good football team this year.
You're kidding right?

I'd say the Chiefs are one of the better teams in the league.

You could very well have lost to a poor Bears team, you should have lost to Dallas, you could have lost to the Seahawks.............when you score (or don't score) like the Commanders do - you're luck will ultimately run out.

Your right we could have. But a player making an interception to stop their final drive, is not luck it's forced by the player. Also 2 TD's thrown within 5 minutes wasn't luck. You think Mark just threw it up there for the hell of it? He saw Santana get open and he threw a strike.

It seems us and the Skins have a totally opposite gameplan every week. Ours is to just keep scoring and hopefully our defense can get a stop, Meanwhile the Skins hope their Defense keeps it close so they can eek one out at the end. The skins philosophy seems to be working so far but their defense will get tired around week 10 for being on the field so long with that offense having so many 3 and outs. Whoever, if either makes the playoffs remains to be seen.

Naw dude, he threw it up hoping something good would come from it and it did..

You're right. The thing that impressed me about the Seattle game is that we actually had a major ball possession time over them. Our offense showed life. It wont be long until the nfc east becomes the toughest division in football.

It was a play designed for him and he was open. So he threw it to him and he caught it. I dont see anything about luck in that.

Brunell would've thrown those passes no matter what. Time was running out and the Commanders had to have two scores to win. They sent a reciever deep and chunked the ball up and hoped for the best. It's not like they put that play in when they could've called a draw as well... they had to score and they had to do it right away. Gibbs sent his fastest WR down the field and told his QB to throw it up, which he did. It's not like Brunell had a checkdown and he made a good decision to beat the coverage. Nope, he laid it out there and hoped for a catch or a PI call.

You might not call it luck, but that was about the only play that any coach would've called because of the circumstances. What else was Gibbs going to call? Where else was Brunell going to throw it? That was their only option.

No, it wasn't a couple of hail marys... but it was about the only thing they could've done to win the game.

Not luck? Put both teams in that same position with 4 min. left and I bet if you play it out 20 more times, the skins wouldn't win any of them. To me that's luck.

Exactly. We have played a decent Seahawk team and pretty decent Dallas team. Neither will go deep in the playoffs if they make it.

Denver will be a test for the skins.

good, just making sure, as will the Eagles be our test

I have to give credit where credit is due. Brunell made the throw and Moss made the catch.

The point is though that the Dallas secondary made two huge mistakes, not to take away from the great catch and throw.

However, no team in the NFL can count on being down 13 points with just a few minutes to go and hope to pull out a 70 and 39 yard bomb out of their hat. It is nearly unheard of.

A steady diet of being down 13 points with just minutes to go and your record would be something along the lines of really bad.

The Skinz are starting to remind me of the 2003 Cowboys a little bit. Everybody said we weren't very good either. In truth, we weren't in a lot of spots but we managed to take advantage of the breaks we got and we won some games. We went to the playoffs and lost in the first round. This Skinz team reminds me of the same. They take advantage of what is given them. We can say that there not very good but they are leading the division. I think we pretty much gotta shut up until we can get our own back yard in order. There doing what it takes. We'll see how far it takes them.
I started a post a couple weeks ago 2005 Commanders = 2003 Cowboys and was slammed for even comparing this Commander team to the great Cowboys team of 2003. lol.

Just like Bledsoe's pass to Glenn Sunday was luck. Right?

Exactly. I'm glad you can see it. I don't know why Commander fans can't.

I figure any pass that travels 50 yards in the air is pretty much a crapshoot.

Right, and hope for PI.

However, if you do it under normal circumstances, say in the middle of a game, your taking a shot. Most teams will do that once or twice a game.

If you're doing it at the end of a game and you're down by two scores... it no longer is an option... it's all you have to win the game. The playcalling and gameplanning is taken out of the equation and all you have is, "go deep and I'll throw it". It's the only option at that point. You're no longer taking a shot, trying to catch the other team napping... it's a desperation heave and the only way you have a chance to win the game. A game that has gotten way out of hand or you wouldn't be behind by two scores with less than 5 min. left.

If I'm a Commanders fan, I'd much rather have seen at least one long drive down the field against the Dallas defense, converting third down after third down to finally score on a one yard Portis run. That would give me confidence that my team could do that in future games. That play calling, execution and athletes made the difference. That my offense out played the opposing defense consistently in a crucial situation, drove down the field and won the game as time ran out.

Because there ain't no way the Commanders will consistently win games if they have to rely on making a lucky, 70 yard pass to pull out wins at the end.

Don't matter anymore,, they threw it, they caught it, they won, End of story. Move on.

i think the only people that overrate them are their fans...everyone knows they're horrible for a 3-0 team. They've won their games by a combined 6 points.
You can't be overrated based on your record, only on projections and expectations.
you can say that they are the worst undefeated team in the league.

I moved on the next day. That doesn't mean I can't remember what happened and discuss it. I was talking about it with another poster.

If you don't want to think about it, move on and read other threads.

No one's relying on that

Against a tougher Seattle defense:
1st drive
50 yards (blocked FG)

1st scoring drive
85 yards

2nd scoring drive
62 yards

3rd
49 yards

4th
55 yards

3rd down conversion
13-18 (72%)
