ASHBURN, Va. -- Washington Commanders rookie offensive lineman Kili Lefotu was found unconscious in his room Wednesday evening and was undergoing tests at a hospital.

Coaches became concerned when Lefotu failed to show up for the team's 7 p.m. practice. Representatives were sent to the National Conference Center, where the players are being housed. They found Lefotu unresponsive and called emergency services to take Lefotu to a hospital.

Coach Joe Gibbs said Lefotu appeared to be doing better, but doctors had yet to diagnose what happened.

"He's responsive, he's talking, which wasn't the case when they first found him at the dorm," Gibbs said. "The first set of tests, they were looking for something bleeding, and they didn't find anything. The first set of tests came back without anything that we should be alarmed about."

Gibbs said the Commanders training staff was not aware of any similar problems in Lefotu's medical history.

Gibbs also said Lefotu had attended the afternoon meetings and showed no signs of illness. The team took longer than usual to become aware of Lefotu's illness because his roommate, Manaia Brown, had been released earlier in the day.

"Anytime something like this happens, it's serious," Gibbs said.

Lefotu was a seventh-round draft pick from Arizona in this year's draft.

Whoa. He's from here at the U of A. I think he was Arizona's only draft pick this year. Hope he's okay.

True....in the end it's all just a game, and the players are real people with real families.

Our ability to realize that is what separates the rest of the animal kingdom from Eagle fans.

Probably diabetes. I have it and when your blood sugar drops, you can go unconscious. Happens to me alot. Hope he is ok and that isn't the case.

I would think that would be one of the first things they test for

Not if he doesn't have a history or a family history of it. I am sure they probably have it ruled out by now that isn't it. I'm sure they've gone over all the scenereos what it might be.

Scary stuff.

Being 6'5" and 315pnds can cause a number of health problems. Hope he's OK, we sure could use him for depth and he was a favorite to win a roster spot.

I'm surprised more of this hasn't happened this year w/ all this heat! Of course this may not have been a heat related problem, hopefully he'll be OK.
