Then why do it? If that's the case we should be even more worried. Receivers changing routes when they aren't even option routes???? How does that happen in a crucial situation? I could see if it was a scramble drill but it was a quick pass.

This is just a guess: the play called didn't have the option for Beasley to pull up because the Cowboys needed to not only get the first down, but to get out of bounds to stop the clock. Only one timeout was left, and they would want to save it to stop the clock to kick the field goal after getting into position.
