Commish: Roethlisberger violated league policy

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell hinted Monday at disciplinary action against Ben Roethlisberger during an interview on the syndicated Dan Patrick Show.

"The issue here is respect to a pattern of behavior," said Goodell, who told Patrick the Steelers quarterback violated the NFL's personal conduct policy.

Ocmulgee Circuit District Attorney Fred Bright announced last Monday that he would not be filing charges against Roethlisberger for an alleged rape at a Milledgeville nightclub. The accuser's varying accounts and the lack of conclusive physical evidence were cited by the DA, though the alleged victim contends a rape did occur, according to documents released by the GBI.

Goodell is expected to fine and/or suspend Roethlisberger, a decision expected sometime this week. The commissioner told Patrick he is still reviewing the GBI documents. "Obviously there is a dispute about the facts that occurred that night," he said.

Anybody can be accused of things.

This is where Roger just needs to back off. Until Big Ben gets proven guilty of something he should just back off.

What if this same thing happens to Peyton Manning? Are you going to suspend him just for being accused?

I will be pissed if he only gets 2 weeks. In a case like this, the league should make a real statement against it. It's not like he smoked pot which is only damaging to the player himself. (well unless driving etc afterwards)

Rape is a extremely serious thing. Even if it wasn't actually rape, the fact that he was in a position with a women he just met, is enough to warrant such a penalty.

I would give him 4 weeks suspension minimum with a warning that the next one will be a minimum of a year and possibly barred from ever doing anything with the NFL again.

He put himself in this position. That alone is a violation of league policy.

Now maybe you can git over this I Hate Roethlisberger phase of your life.

Let the civil courts and the commish figure it out. If you need more gossip and drama and passion in your life, I suggest Housewives of N.Y. or American Idol.

Me, I'd rather read about the Dallas Cowboys and not some Steeler rube.

Well, so far, 30 other starting QB's in the NFL have not been accused of this sort of garbage. Why, Ben? Because he's a scum bag with a pattern starting to develope.

Time to step in and slap his pee-pee!!

Oh, and Archie, maybe you should reword your post title or maybe an awake mod can do it for you.

Has nothing to do with the rape accusation.

He was having sex in a public place on a bathroom floor with his bodyguards guarding the door.

That has not been denied.

That does not uphold the image that he is being paid partially to uphold.

I dont buy this. It doesn't take much to put yourself in position to get into this kind of trouble.

Last time I checked this is America and you are innocent until proven guilty so until all the facts are collected Goodell should just bow out.

Why rush to make this decision? Why put time frames on it?

When a pattern starts to develop than time for backing off tends to be just trying to brush the problem under the rug IMO.

Furthermore one has to wonder what would have happened if that surveillance tape would not have erased or taped over which seems to be controversial at worst.

If it was the first time it happened, if there have not been other incidents that have raised questions...maybe it would be different.

But with other things in the past coming to light and this current incident...if it happened again and he was found guilty the NFL would have serious egg on it's face for doing nothing...heck IMO they would have serious egg on their face if they did nothing right now...whether something happened later or not.

One does not have to break the law or be found guilty in a court of law for the league to impose a fine or suspension. The NFL is a business and part of the business is to protect the image of itself. They players understand this. There are rules and regulations that need to be applied to. Certain drugs that are not illegal in the civilian world still hold problems for players as an example.

So...he should be suspended and not suspending him would actually be the proverbial crime IMO.

Again you do not have to be found guilty in a court of law to be suspended or fined in the NFL. People seem to think you do, but you don't.

You don't see anything wrong with an NFL QB having sex in a public bathroom with a woman he just met while his bodyguards block access to that bathroom from the womans friends?

You also don't believe the NFL should allow their players to do this without repercussions even though it directly reflects on their business? :laugh2:

AS any good parent raising a child they usually reprimand contiunal bad behavior. In light this seems to be the second time noted for such disgraceful bad behaviour & a hint a possible third instance has taken place then the PARENT being GODDELL should punish behaviour to a higher degree so child understands totally the ramifications of said behaviour.. Little smacks or spankings do not suffice anymore. A clearer understanding is needed for this child.

NO beating required let me make that clear but something to motivate the child to better behaviour & steer in another direction. Thats good parenting.

I would just like to see the league react to facts instead of he said she said.

If Big Ben doesn't deny plugging in the bathroom then yeah he deserves some punishment.

Except Goodel clearly stated "The issue here is respect to a pattern of behavior," and not just an incident of being accused of a type of behavior.

What type of behavior is that and how many other players display this type of behavior but haven't been accused of things?
