Comp pick question

Only problem I see is too many one year deals are being signed

By the time the 5th round rolls around, you're basically drafting in the 6th. It pushes everybody's picks back.

I don't like it.

Comp picks should only be for losing free agents that you originally drafted and couldn't sign to a 2nd contract. If you resign them when their rookie deal is done and lose them later, no pick. If you didn't draft them, no pick. Teams are definitely looking to sign 1 year deals with free agent who they think will get a big deal and big a comp pick back. I think the system will have to be adjusted soon.

It is an 8 round draft, 256 players, but no one ever says that

a 4th round comp in 2018 is really a 5th rounder delayed by a year or actually worth a 6th today?

formula should include years of service with team at time lost.
this would reduce value of 1 year make good deals to virtually nothing.

Personally, I don't think comp picks should be given to teams, period.

In that case there should be no cap. I think it's an imperfect system (it should only include players you draft or min number of years (3+) with team) but teams should be compensated.

I think teams should get a cap discount for players they drafted as long as they keep them.

Knowing we are getting 4 comp picks this year we could always trade a 2018 4th for a 5th this year

A little instant gratification and present day value of money to even things out

We don't need 11 picks next year and no 5th this year
:clap::clap::clap:

Love this thinking especially given the depth and quality of this years draft.

There won't be 32 higher picks awarded. There are always 7th round comps picks given out. Dallas will get their 4 unless they sign several more free agents.
Dallas will get picks bumped but likely by their own.
--See Mo. We have a great deal of NFL talent leaving.
We should end up with 4 picks.
Will be intersting to see if we get any Vet value signings late in free agency.

I think Dallas will make several moves in the middle rounds of the draft this year. I know Jerry will try and gain a 5th. They never like to go 2 rounds with no pick. I see several trade downs to get extra picks in the 3rd-6th round area. With how deep the draft is and the multiple needs, it makes perfect sense.

So it looks like 4 comp picks- a 4th, 5th, 5th and 6th...............we can sign a couple <5m FAs with no loss of picks

Good point if you love someone on your board in the 5th. But if you can later trade a 2018 4th for a 2019 3rd, you increase your odds of impactful players long term. That is my preferred approach.

this is a very deep draft

it would be just our luck to have 11 picks next year with a weak class like 2009
