I haven't kept track of the people we have signed, whether they are cuts or true free agents. Have we cancelled out any potential comp picks for next year or are we still on track to get one?

Is it over for Terrance Williams? Nobody has signed him and he’s in his prime based off age

Something happened with him mentally based on local sports talk radio comments.

He had some value most years that he played for the Cowboys. He'll likely get a 1 year deal at some point.

There are really 8 rounds to every draft.......256/32 = 8 rounds when the 32 Comp picks are added

RD1.....picks 1-32
RD2.....picks 33-64
RD3.....picks 65-96
RD4.....picks 97-128
RD5.....picks 129-160
RD6.....picks 161-192
RD7.....picks 193-224
RD8.....picks 225-256

When looking at and evaluating Comp Picks we have to be honest about their actual value

DAL got awarded a 4th Round Comp for losing AHitchens last year......pick #136.... that clearly falls into RD5

Our own RD7 pick is #241.... that is clearly in RD8 because of Comp Picks

I think DAL puts way too much stock into Comp Picks(I know Dak was a Comp Pick) but we easily could have taken him instead of Tapper with our regular 4th if we had an inkling he could play in the NFL as a Rookie

We have made over 42 Comp Picks over the years and he is the only one of substance.... that is because most Comp Picks are really RD5-8 picks and they are not successful on any team

Even RD3 Comps are really RD4 picks and they are delayed a year which cuts their value in half.... so in reality a 2020 RD3 Comp is only worth a RD5 pick in 2019...... that is 50 pts in value or enough to move up from 58 to 53 in the Draft or not very much

Think about that when letting DLaw go

Tank leaving has little to do with his comp pick value and a boatload to do with his cap hit. He's not worth the numbers being thrown around.

We are done then for Irving, the weed has over taken his brain. Like the purple dranker who could not let it go the same for Irving with weed.

i don’t think you let a player walk because of comp picks but at the same time the system does help build your roster. An extra 4th is an extra 4th

Here's the thing with Tank and he and his agents know it. He could sign and play under the tag in 2019 for $20mil and again in 2020 for the QB tag which is $24.8 mil. Added together that's $44.8 mil over two years or $22.4mil per. The $22.5 mil per he's asking for is exactly that. Fans on here believe he's being greedy, not the case at all. Teams that have paid big $$ for FA set that price. We've whined since D Ware left that we NEED a stud DE, now we're whining because he wants to be paid like a top DE. No one knows how much he's asking for in guaranteed money but if he signed the 2019 Tag and the 2020 tag the guarantee is $44.8 mil. If it was me I would ask for that as a MINIMUM guarantee. Reports suggest he's asking for $60 mil. The agent starts high, the team starts low and they meet in the middle. The negotiations will play out and we won't be talking about comp picks when it happens

Actually an extra 4th is actually an extra 5th.

Right.
And when the draft was 12 rounds, a 5th to 7th was considered that you got a decent player to make the team. And the 8th to 12th was a long shot. Any one remember a 12th round pick in Larry Brown.
Anyway, now a 5th round pick is considered a shot at getting a decent player, but also a gamble, and 6th and 7th round picks are considered scrubs. At least by fans.

But an extra Comp 4th is really a 6th because of the year delay

Agree, but there isn't a lot of return on the picks like a Comp 6th now that Dallas built a young team through strong drafts the last five years.

A few years ago that Comp 6th had a decent chance of making the roster. Now it would be a guy slotted for the practice squad after a camp competition. At a position like WR, it would be one more body competing for a roster spot with Noah Brown, Cedric Wilson, and Devin Smith.

At this point, I would rather go with the reclamation projects like Devin Smith or Kerry Hyder.

A comp 4th is a comp 4th
That means it is at least the 134th pick in the Draft

Look up that value on the Trade Chart and cut it in half because it is delayed a year

That leaves you with a present day value of 19.5 or pick #182
