Per Dave Hellman on Cowboys Break:

He says he spoke to someone in the know who said since we cut WR Thompson they are fairly certain we will get a 4th rounder for losing Hitchens. There is also a chance we could get a 6 for someone else.

Don’t know if this has already been discussed.

Does anybody know who Bene is?

Was too lazy to copy and paste his last name from google.

Corner we acquired from the Bengals last year. Left as an UFA this offseason. Supposedly playing a lot of snaps in Arizona

Like everything it was discussed quite a bit.

Getting a 6th for Bené Benwikere sounds better than it really is considering what kind of prospect is generally taken in that round. Maybe the Cowboy can use it to move up a few spots or find a diamond in the rough.

A 6th would be for Bene playing snaps in Arizona I believe

@Nightman has a better understanding of the formulas than I ever would, but I believe he thought it could be a 7th rounder in addition to the 4th. Would be nice if it was 6th instead.

This is the year we actually lose a 6th rounder from the Benwikere trade too.

So it'd be interesting to lose and gain a 6th from the same player in the same draft. Comp 6th will obviously be lower.

The concept of comp picks makes no sense at all.

I agree. Just make the draft 8 rounds. If a team decides not to re-sign one of their guys then that’s on them and they shouldn’t be compensated for it. Comp picks were a good idea back when free agency started and nobody was accustomed to losing players. The comp pick softened the blow but they aren’t necessary anymore.

I know this is a bit off topic, but what the hell happened to Butler? is he even still with the team, or did he get COOPED!!!!

As far as I can see the best we can get for BeneB is a 7th and that is solely based on his playing time

He worked himself into a qualifying position by playing a lot in almost every game so far for ARI

It is ironic considering we wasted a 6th on him when we could have deactivated him for a certain number games but played him for a handful of ST snaps anyways

So in essence trading a 1st for ACooper allowed us to get back a 4th and 7th since we could waive DThompson instead of hoping to get a pick based on BeneB continued starting

It was part of the deal when they allowed UFA after 4 years for everyone but 1st rounders

I do think they should stop pretending and just say the Draft is 8 rounds

A 5th round Comp(#178) is essentially a late 6th
A regular late 7th(220) becomes a mid 8th(244)

Seems like robbery to get a pick for Benwikere. This is one thing I like about management. Their free agent strategy clearly is largely built around comp pick farming.
