Comp Picks?

Does getting rid of Griffin, Poe and Worley help us get more comp picks, or is that set in stone once they were signed?

Griffin and Poe were cut prior to signing here, so they were never going to negatively impact our comp ratio for the upcoming draft. Worley was a free agent with an expiring contract but signed a small deal. His amount of snaps was fairly low too, and obviously being cut now.

Teams are awarded compensatory draft picks between Rounds 3 and 7 based upon a league formula that takes into account the following criteria for players who left the team to sign elsewhere as free agents: average salary per year (APY), snap count and postseason awards. While there is an expected level of compensation for a player based on the amount he has signed for, his playing time (or lack thereof) in the upcoming season could alter the expectation. To qualify for compensatory picks, teams must end up with more qualifying free agents lost than gained in a particular year.

The number of compensatory picks allotted each year is limited to the number of teams in the league (32), per the collective bargaining agreement. However, compensatory picks are not divided up equally among the teams, and no team can receive more than four compensatory picks in a single year.

There were alterations to the methodology of determining compensatory value/picks with this year's collective bargaining agreement. It's likely that we will see most, if not all, of the compensatory picks land between Rounds 3 and 6 because of these changes.

The compensatory picks for the 2021 NFL Draft won't be determined by the NFL Management Council's formula until after the 2020 season is over, but in this post I'll attempt to project which teams will be receiving compensatory picks next year and the round in which those picks could fall.

Keep in mind: Players need to have been signed as unrestricted free agents before April 27 and rank high enough among their peers to qualify for the compensatory-pick formula. They also cannot have been released by their previous team. Only those notable players who are projected to be eligible for the compensatory-pick formula are included among the key additions and losses listed below.

Sounds like Quinn has been underwhelming in Chicago and his stats/playing time will no elevate him to a 3rd round pick.

Pretty sure our comp picks will be as follows:
3rd rounder-B. Jones
4th rounder- R. Quinn
5th rounder-R. Cobb

6th or 7th can't remember who

You just can't give Will McClay that kind of ammo.

What are the conditions for Griffens pick to go from a 6 to a 5?

Thanks.
I forgot about the 5th round for Biadasz, and had Bennett as a 6th round pick. It was a 7th conditional to a 6th. So the conditions were not met?

That's a great haul. Hopefully they can add to it the next few days. Hopefully the Cowboys will bundle up a couple picks and move up to get better talent on day 2. I'd LOVE 4 or 5 picks in those rounds. Not sure they need 6 picks on day 3.

Jerry needs to pick up a few extra picks so he can sell the draft as being the savior.

Even so, this years comp picks are based on last years FA.

So, when Crawford signs a nine figure deal elsewhere this offseason, we will get a 3rd in 2022.

Pretty sure it was Jeff Heath

Right as 3 of those 6 would be used for some player they could get as an UDFA. Well under Garrett anyway. They did do good on day 3 last year. But prefer they use those to move up to day 2.
Still need quality over quantity. If they are to get some good future starters.

We don’t know yet. I would imagine playing every game and getting 5+ sacks would be my guess

there's a limit on how many comp picks a team can get in a year. That limit is four. We've already qualified for that amount, so we've already hit our limit anyway, I'm pretty sure.

Iirc we signed Worley after the comp pick deadline passed
