Comparing NFL QBs pay, reg season and playoff success

We raise hell about the game and to every one of them the game is all business.

I look at today's NFL as akin to watching Apple and Microsoft square off in a company softball game.
And the business of signing players is part of it.

We’d be raising hell if we were about to over pay for any other position but for QB, we appear to be ok with it. I’m not about to just sit back and take it sitting down. Ha

Bullet, when I think of Dak Prescott, he's not my first choice but he is a choice I can accept and understand.

And the difference between Brady and Rodgers or Brees or Rothliesberger or Rivers is that his owner builds around him. Many think this "ya gotta build a team around him" is a negative and I think just the opposite. The perception of a QB that needs more help is a positive one for me. We saw how they handled Romo and then even admitted they were laying too much on him.

There teams with these Teir 1's, except for the ultimate exception in the league, how are they doing? And the more power given to a Tier 1 QB, the more a team has to make him happy, just look at GB and PIT for that.

The best part of our QB is that he fully understands his role. He knows he's not expected to throw for 300 and 3 scores every game and while he is the most important element on the team, he understands team just as he did at Miss St. Guys like Cutler and George with the great arms never got that. Eli and Flacco got it.
But yet your giving him credit for the wins. This is all a load of crap Coach. Sounding more like your Homerish side.

Continue justifying over paying for an average QB.

Yep, just wait until the 15M a year deal is made with Elliott, that will be far worse than the QB situation. No team needs a 15M RB but almost every team will be paying 30M for a QB.

And if it’s that high it will be too much for his talent level at this time. I’d feel much more comfortable with a salary in the neighborhood of 17-21 million for 3 years. If he surpassed our expectations in next couple years then we can open up the checkbook.
It isnt about talent level, it is about supply and demand.
Other things are factored in as well.
Only time will tell if some of these qb signings were a bust, like garapolo, and cousins and dak etc.

Of course I give him credit for the wins, he led the team and sometimes brought them back in the 4Q. And Greg, while I may not agree with your thinking, I would not call that a load of crap. I do sell a load of crap here but mostly in the Members and Off Topic zones.

You are missing the real benefit here. This just gives you more ammo for your everlasting war on Booger, seize the moment.

I see posters using the term "market value" and then not wanting to pay Prescott in that 30M area. It doesn't have as much to do with him as the fact that every team has to have a QB1 and that is driving the market, not the quality of the QB's.

Every team has to ask themselves the same question, if not him then who takes the snaps? Think MIN wanted to give Cousins that deal? They knew that if they didn't some other team most likely would and they'd still need a QB1.

Then there's the fan element that every owner should be striving to satisfy. Is my owner doing everything feasible to field the best team? There are probably not a lot of Cousins fans in MIN just like Dalton fans in CIN but every football fan should understand the dynamics at work. There are just a few Tier 1 QB's and look at those playoff and SB records.

The options other than paying Prescott market value are just not there. They weren't there in this draft and not likely to be in the next two drafts without selling out the draft and there will be teams doing that so the competition for the blue chip QB's will be intense and mistakes will be made.

Owners do not pay QB's for stats, they pay them to win and he's a 66% QB and that puts him in some expensive company at QB.
Exactly, that was my point, but you said it better lol.

yeah I wonder about that too, the last team that did that with a rb was minn with AP and it didnt work out good for them.

Yep and if they prove to be bad deals, they will move on and probably make more.

I think it is really simplifying building a team and holding it together with our suggestions about who we pay and how much. The Cowboys have a tough job ahead with a team that is the most talented one they've had in a long time and I am sure they'd love to pay him 20 and have 10 left for other players but there is not one QB in the NFL that leaves money on the table.

Remember Flacco didn't want a contract that would cause the team to jettison players and then got 20M and players got released.

I laugh at this notion that Brady leaves the money because he wants the players around him or that his wife makes more than he does, which I would accept more than the other players around him. If he hadn't agreed to take less than market value, he most likely would not be playing in NE and the QB they sent to SF would be their QB.

I don't think many are considering that. Some say just draft Tua or Herbert or Lawrence but the fight for them, unless it's a team that doesn't need a QB in 1st and we saw what happened with AZ, we just thought the RGIII and Ricky Williams trades were nuts.

I look at this as we are cavemen. There's only 4 or 5 "pretty" cavewomen and they are taken but there's some decent looking ones that can cook so I'll settle for that instead of an ugly one that complains about me always forgetting our anniversary. Now there's some pretty ones coming up but there's still the chance they become transgendered and now I am stuck with a drinking buddy.

So, we’re crediting Dak for our wins last 3 years?
yeah you have to, same for the losses, he gets the blame, the QB is the team leader, and like the HC he gets credit and blame
he may not deserve.
Dak has been a good team leader, the other players try hard for him in a lot of the comeback wins.
I think the other players are part of the reason they went with dak over romo.
Dak has led the team to many wins, it may be sloppy at times, but that counts as a win too.

Also dude , we fans dont decide any of this, if everyone on this board said Dak is only worth 20 mil a year, and not a penny higher,
it would not make any difference.
So for that reason I dont care how much they pay dak, he is the only viably option, and I dont trust the jones boys
to draft a good qb to replace him, just look at who they wanted in the past few years, all are busts now.

Yep

What’s sad is Zeke is probably more valuable to Daks success and might warrant over paying. Muck like with Cooper.

We’ve already been thru the RB by Committee which was a huge failure like WR by Committee. Lol

Paying less than Elite QB upper echelon money is going to eventually kill us. Tick tock...

It makes a difference in the discussion regardless if it effects the reality of the situation. If we feel we are over paying Dak and the effects it could have are respectable arguments which should be raised despite what our franchise does.

IMO that’s like saying we shouldn’t discuss going to war because we’re going to anyway. It’s always worthy of the discussion and criticism regardless if it impacts results.

yeah lol and I would say dak is decent looking one that can cook . but some people here would do without in hopes of one of those pretty ones that
likely wont ever happen.

Elliot might drink himself out of a deal. Pay him the 5th year option money.

Of course not but hopefully we’re still allowed to voice our concerns .

Or would we rather this forum just post thoughts and everyone just listen and follow along?

This thought that since signing Dak is evitable we should all accept and get on board blows me away.
no voice away, that is what the forum is for, and later on if dak doesnt do much you can say you knew all along lol.
But if he wins a SB you might have to eat a little crow??

Here are Dak’s numbers so far compared to the guys above:
Reg season record: 32-16
Playoff record: 1-2

Compared to guys like Stafford, Garoppolo, Cousins, and Carr, Dak has already surpassed them.

Good post, agree 99%.

But I wouldn't include Garoppolo in with those other guys, he's only started 10 games, pretty easy for Dak with his 48 games started to surpass Garoppolo....

It’s not about being right or wrong. Those are silly trolling agendas.

Even if Dak meets all of our expectations the arguments and questions should be raised.

Letting status quo going unchecked is relinquishing a basic instinct and right we have to voice concerns.
